Not all teams getting rich by playing in Bowls...
(c&p from usa today)
Rutgers coach Greg Schiano got a Gatorade shower after his team won the PapaJohns.com Bowl last December, but his school took a financial bath on the trip.
Rutgers was paid $1.2 million for the appearance in Birmingham, but ended up losing $184,000.
The Newark Star-Ledger says the debt resulted primarily from spending more than $200,000 to send along the band, cheerleaders, faculty and staff.
There was one big economic irony. The football team's success meant a payout of $268,365 in performance bonuses was triggered for Schiano and his staff.
Rutgers' fan base didn't do much to help the problem, either. The school was obligated to buy 10,000 tickets, but sold less than half and took another $214,000 hit there.
