Evolution of the NDL

Hello fellow NDLers,
The time has come. Our league has relied on these very forums since it's inception in 2010 (I think lol) and they have been great at what they do. I (and quite a few others) feel it's time for the league to take the next step.
Going forward, starting when we move to OOTP 23 in the offseason our league will be moving to Discord!
I know this will be an extremely unpopular decision for a few of you and I can understand and appreciate that. Change sucks usually, but I feel this is going to be an overall positive step for the league. Of course there will be bumps in the road, that is a given.
If you want to continue to use the forums for off topic or random items non-league related feel free and it will still be available. This is strictly OOTP related and all league functions and communications and Slack will be decommissioned. I'm told by Niddler that when NCAA football comes back next year it will be on the forums if that's something you're looking forward to.
If you've never used Discord before it is essentially like Slack on steroids. Here are some pros and cons of Discord just for transparency:
Cons
- Completely new tech to some people.
- When private messaging others it shows your general Discord username and not your username from the NDL Discord. While annoying it does show the name you might know them as in an AKA section. It's a minor annoyance but one we'll get over easily.
- Have to pay to change your avatar on different servers but we don't really enforce logos right now anyway.
Pros
- Much more management capabilities for me. Roles/Channels/Categories. It will be a much cleaner experience once you're used to it.
- Different roles for each division and a fancy champion role. You can literally ping a division and call them trash. Should make for fun times.
- Much MUCH easier searchability than the forums.
- On that note, never ever lose messages. We'll be able to go back troll people who said their team would be good and are garbage. We'll be able to go back and look at old draft picks and lament why we should have taken X guy etc.
- And a really huge one, free and multiple voice channels. We can go back to the days where during playoffs we can all get in a channel and shoot the shit while our team gets swept by Bowie. Hell, you can even use voice chat for trade talks. Imagine how fast it could be!
I'm sure there are more things in both categories I'm forgetting but the pros outweigh the cons easily in mine and others minds.
If this decision upsets you enough that you don't feel you can continue in the league please let me know ASAP. I do ask that you give it a fair shot and try it out first. We have guys in reserve waiting for teams.
Overall, I think this will increase immersion, activity, and recruitability. I cannot tell you how many guys passed because we still used forums. Not a knock on the forums, just the truth.
If you need help setting up, Corey, Niddler, or myself will be more than happy to help. I don't think the setup will be much different than Slack though - you'll require an email.
Come join the fresh waters and test things out! There's a suggestions channel for you to give me ideas on how to improve the Discord too!
