Thoughts and prayers from NDL family needed.

My story. I was diagonsed with Crohns in high school. It was just a minor flare up but there it was. Now, we will skip 13 years into the future. After I was married, I had another flare up. A flare up so bad I was in the hospital for 11 days. The bumbling doctors at North Ottawa made it worse. At one point I was so dehydrated the nurses had to poke me at least 5 times to get an Iv. I got better but damage had been done. However, we had no idea what was to come next.

Jump forward a year or so. Its winter time in Michigan and I played pond hockey almost every night. One night my ribs cracked on the back of someone's skate. I was in a constant pain. So, i began to take advil. Soon after I began taking Advil i became sicker and sicker and then the hammer dropped. In what were probably my last moments Peggy took me to a hospital in Grand rapids. As soon as we arrived I fainted.

The causes were determined to be a weakened kidney from a prior event and ibuprofen.

I awake to tubes, beeping lights and doctors poking, proding asking the same questions. I was at a creatine level of 10. I was told I would be going on dialysis. Thankfully I was young and strong and I battled. I left the hospital with a creatine of 2 and avoided dialysis forever.

Fourteen years later my time has come, I am on thebcliff's edge of dialysis. Fortunately my wife was to be my donor. On November 17 I received her kidney. I was sent home on the 20th and began another battle. The immunosuppressants , the kidney vs. my immune system.

Let me say I have been feeling great so this is a big surprise.

My immune system has won a round. Its now dec.10 and I am back in the hospital for five days. I will receive an aggressive dose of steroid and another immunosuppressant drug-the grandaddy of them all. My doctors have seen this type of regression before and know exactly how to fight it.

However, I am reaching to the NDL family and ask for positive thoughts and prayers as I enter another difficult phases in my new kidney life.
