Am i mistaken, but whats up with this play being ran for about 40 percent of peopls offense..and they aren't even running option...is there a defense that will stop it? Zone...man..even spies..it gets flat out owned...

I am trying things in practice...I use Texas's default 4-3 playbook, so far best defense I can find would be a 3-3-5 nickel, but not sure, anyone else have any "hints" or suggestions? haha

User a LB and stick w/ the QB, let the interior D play the rest and get a few down linemen to prevent too much of a push. It works when it supposed to - if they team you are playing has a better line than you do - and they read it well - it's very hard to stop (as it should be) - if it's even lines - or yours is better, you'll be fine.

My personal opinion - I would NOT set the aggressive/conservative option play to either. IMHO this creates a predictable pattern for your D and makes it an easy read for your opponent. Use it only if they are eating you up with one read of the option (ex. he's giving every time and getting 5-7 yards) then you set it to cover whatever is giving you fits.

Make sense?

Just keep practicing - it's do-able I assure you.

Also kinda cheesy to have it on all the time too

Also remember just because it looks like a read play doesn't mean it is a read play. There are many plays now that resemble read action but in fact there is no read on the play.

This has worried me some, even though I feel everyone I play has known what was going on. I might run a read option, then run a HB off tackle next. If you go to the RB on the read, it looks identical to the HB off tackle.

The biggest thing that I can recommend here is communication.

If you feel your opponent is doing anything during the game that you feel is not right or you feel you would not do, pause the game, contact your opponent and discuss it like adults.

It isn't hard.

I am not trying to be a jerk, just trying to explain.
If you feel your opponent(s) are running the option or certain plays a bunch and not in moderation, talk to them.

Exactly... the way the handoff animation is set up on this version the QB hands off pretty much the same way in shotgun forms regardless of whether its a read option or a HB dive or any other run. Now if the QB keeps it then its pretty easy to tell it was a read. But if the HB gets the ball I haven't seen any real way to tell if it was a play called as a read or a straight handoff play because the animation of the QB handing it off looks identical. Just the way it seems to be setup in shotgun forms .

i like this because that is what teams really try to do even in p/a to fool the defense. If everything starts the same off those plays every time it's ore difficult to read and more "real" IMO

If you have aggressive on, during a non option play hand off. Will the read guy crash the RB or still spy the QB?

If you have aggressive on, he will go after the QB on a speed option, and after the player taking the handoff in a read option.

QB reads are easy to see, if they leave the guy on the end of the line unblocked and he stands there like an idiot..its a QB read...most of the time the game will even say it as commentary. It's not hard to see, it looks way different than an off tackle play or a zone run out of shotgun.

I noticed on the Madden Demo that you have the option to key the RB or the QB in presnap options. There is always some feature in one game you would rather have in the other. Damn EA...

And I agree. With the advent of custom playbooks there are alot more variations in possible formations and offense types. To me, it seems ridiculous that someone would run I-form, Double-Wing Option, Shotgun, Pistol, Single Back, Heavy 3 Back all in the same playbook. To each his own, but damn there is no way a team could practice and focus on all of those offensive styles. If we wanted to get into the sim/str8 discussion about the whole thing, the only way there would ever be any way to control it would be to limit the offensive styles in a playbook. I personally have Shotgun forms, Pistol and Maryland I for short yardage. 3 packages, that's all. I'm not complaining, but just throwing it out there as a discussion piece to the topic...

Or just use regular play books, no custom.

I'm happy to have custom playbooks. I just think offensively there are some offensive styles that just aren't possible as matches in the same book.

This is not true, off tackle, inside zone, buck sweep, and power O out of shotgun all leave the DE or normal read man unblocked, which causes the read action. The only plays that I noticed don't have the read action, are HB Base, Draw, and Dive.

So it is not easy to see.. And as I said earlier just because it looks like a QB Read, Read Option .. Whatever.. doesn't mean it is one.

I would run a counter in shotgun and the DE would stop rushing like it was a QB read.

This is one play (not the only one by any means) I think EA really screwed up. The DE just sits there and waits to get kicked out. No DE does that in CFB, and if he does, he's not playing for long. No squeeze, no wrong-arm, just sit and come get me. awful.
