#1 Army Black Knights

Image

The Black Knights at 5-1 remind me of those Chik-fila commercials. Cows are representing a chicken place like Army is a passing team. Trent Steelman has already thrown for 1061 yards in 6 games with a league leading 10 tds. EJ Tucker and Justin Allen are Steelman's favorite targets and Raymod Maples has 637 yards rushing with 8 tds. The defense has 18 ints led by Marcus Jackson with 4 and Kyler Martin with 3. There only loss was a heartbreaker 31-34 vs Central Michigan.

#2 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers

Image

WKU also comes in at 5-1 with a last second loss to Tulane 13-16. In that game, they were like KFC. Yes the faster Josh Evans maybe crispier but sometimes the original is just better. The back up Evans started but got hurt early. Keshawn Simpson took over and never looked back as he leads the league in rushing with 822 yards and 8 td's. Kawaan Jakes has struggled at QB but his favorite target is TE Jack Doyle. The defense leads the league with 21 sacks with Quanterius Smith having 6. Tyree Robinson has 4 of the 16 int's. Rico Brown has returned two punts for tds.

#3 Buffalo Bulls

Image

The Buffalo Bulls are like Sonic, a full variety. Jerry Davis has passed for 614 yards and Branden Oliver has rushed for 693 yards with 8 tds. He also has a rec td and a special teams td. The defense is lead by Steven Means 5 sacks and Najia Johnson's 4 int's. They are currently 4-1 only losing to #1 Army 7-17. Hopefully his connection issues get resolved.

#4 Florida Atlantic Owls

Image

The FAU Owls are like Wendy's. They look the part with quality on both sides but still fall short of the top. Stephen Curtis leads the league in td-int ratio at 4-1 and Damian Fortner averaging 100 yds a game. They lead in int's per game with 5 led by Treon Howard with 4. They are 3-0 with no game close thus far.

# 5 Central Michigan Chippewas

Image

CMU is like good ol' McDonald's, you know what your getting with no surprises. A whole lotta Ryan Radcliff with 841 yard with Cody Wilson and Conner Odykirk his prime targets. They are 2-2 with a huge win 34-31 against #1 Army. Zurlon Tipton has 344 yards rushing and Demis Nalor leads the defense with 4 int's.

#6 North Texas Mean Green

Image

North Texas at 2-3 are like Krystal's, they don't just have one productive receiver but they have many. Derek Thompson is the QB with a league leading 1126 yards. His targets include Ivan Delgado, Christopher Bynes, Brandin Byrd and Brelan Chancellor, all with at least 10 catches. They have 3 players with 3 sacks each and 3 players with at least 3 int's led by Hilbert Jackson with 4. Just a team with many little parts.

#7 New Mexico Lobos

Image

At 1-4 the Lobos have struggled. They have given up 1613 yards as teams have been having their way withe the Lobos defense. Their lone bright spot is a whopper in WR Ty Kirk. He has 13 catches for 239 yards. Look for the Lobos to turn things around.

# 8 UAB Blazers

Image

UAB has limped out to a 1-2 record only because they tried something different. Like Little Caesar's, stick to what you do well. For Coach Cane that is ball control and a monster secondary. You can't be the all you want Hut, Papa or Dominoes, stay with basics. Jonathan Perry has started hitting his stride with 474 yards passing to Greg Franklin, Kennard Backman and Jackie Williams. Look for Cornelius Richards to lead the secondary.

#9. Tulane Green Wave (1-1)
#10. Kent State Golden Flashes (1-1)
#11. New Mexico State Aggies (1-1)
#12. UNLV Rebels (1-1)
#13. Bowling Green Falcons (1-1)
#14. Louisiana Monroe Warhawks (1-0)
#15. Utah State Aggies (0-2)
#16. Ball State Cardinals (0-2)
#17. Troy Trojans (0-1)
#18. UTSA Roadrunners (0-1)
#19. Memphis Tigers (0-1)
#20. Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders (0-1)
#21. San Jose State Spartans (0-1)
#22. Texas State Bobcats (0-1)

Time to eat!
