What if...

Post by Cnasty »

Your favorite college football program dropped the football team. Funding or some crazy shit.

Who would you root for and why?

I gave it some thought and was thinking of staying in state and going to the FSU side but just couldnt do it out of principle and the team fans motto being "ITS OUR TURN, ITS OUR NIGHT!!!" when they get lucky.

I then thought LSU since when I worked nights, Shel got me addicted to the LSU boards and I know their roster as well as Miami's but I just couldnt have this opportunity and go to a Les Miles run team.

So my top 3 are:

1. Oregon-I look amazing in green.
2. Texas-my sister is marrying a Texas fan so Texas is cool in my book.
3. Georgia-its become like my 2nd home and I have always loved Athens and kept an eye on the Dawgs.

We see how many uniform combos they have, imagine all the awesome shirts.

On the college football tour, Autzen is near the top of the list for a visit.

I"m a IU fan, it's almost like we don't have a football program most of the time. But anyway:

1- New Mexico- I grew up there and didn't move back to my native Indiana until I was 12. They're terrible... but then again I am an IU fan so I'm used to it.
2- Arizona State- I've always just had a soft spot for them for some reason. I love the little Sun Devil guy on the helmets and the color scheme. I love Phoenix; we used to take our kids to team camp at ASU when I coached in New Mexico and the nightlife in Tempe even in the middle of the summer was unreal.
3. Northwestern- They were the first school to recruit me in high school and I always enjoy seeing them do well except when it's at the expense of the Hoosiers.

So basically I'm a fan of lovable losers I guess.

When Iona dropped their football, I jumped on Buffalo, so I've already been through this. Iona is my hometown team (10 miles away) and I used to go to all the games. If, let's say, either Nebraska or Buffalo ditched their teams, I'd probably add Rutgers; a team I kinda-sorta root for because I like when the pro sports-crazed NY papers cover college ball.

i dont think i know 1 person who didn't go to BC that likes BC sports.

its a really odd thing. partly because nobody in Boston cares about college sports but also because the people from BC are complete douchebags

100% accurate. New England is a pro sports area for the most part, other than maybe UCONN bball.

i honestly wouldnt root for anyone else, and i almost was fishing for this response from you :)

My real answer might be USF since my wife went there...

I can't even fathom a world without PSU football.

I'd have to roll with Notre Dame. They've been my #2 school since the beginning. I live in SW Ohio and can't stand Ohio State, so ND was the only thing on TV, so it was easy to make the connection with them. Plus, ND is still reasonably local... like 2.5hrs away.

If Ohio State ever lost their football team, I think the world would come to an end.
But I would have to root for Penn State and/or Pitt.

I grew up about 45 minutes from Pittsburgh and 2 hours to Columbus. So the entire area is torn between the 3 schools.
And in Pro sports, that area is mostly Steeler country.

Kansas St. - went to college there or Kansas (live about 40 minutes from Lawrence). Outside of that, I don't care about any other college team.

USF cause it is closest to were I grew up, they just did not start playing football till I moved out of the state.
Iowa State, oddly 2 of my grandparents, both my parents, 8 of my aunts and uncles, and 6 cousins all have graduated from there, weird I know.

Well I root for two teams..

Cal
and Texas Tech

Went to both schools for at least 2 years.. But if both of those was to lose their program which is not a stretch for Cal since they just cut 5 of their Athletic programs including baseball, and men rugby which is actually Cal's most successful sports program. I would go with UofH University of Houston.. I grew up in Houston and even went to some of their games with my aunt who was a alumnus there when I was little. So the Houston Cougars for me.
