Big 10 has supposedly made it's initial offers

Still don't know what to think about this if Nebraska does bolt. Going to take some time to get used to.

If we just lose Rutgers, that would be great. ECU fills that spot easily.

Re: Big 10 has supposedly made it's initial offers
I'd rather not go anywhere, but with the Big 12 to likely crumble I'm not sure NU has any choice. Just going to miss playing the local guys (KU, KState, etc.).
I read somewhere that this is bound to happen every 15 years anyway, it's just that going from the Big 8 to the Big 12 wasn't much of a change to me. We just added some teams, but this will completely change the landscape of Husker sports. Hopefully for the better, but this will ruin the chance for me to travel to many (if any) road games. I currently only live about 2-3 hours from 4 road stadiums.

Re: Big 10 has supposedly made it's initial offers
I have been saying this for a year now; I think it is Nebraska and I hope it is. Let the Texas schools all have their own special conference. It isn't like the Huskers get any huge benefit recruiting ... Burkhead is the best guy on the team from Texas if I am remembering right.
Re: Big 10 has supposedly made it's initial offers
Look at it this way, the Huskers will win the conference every single year.huskerskev84 wrote:I'd rather not go anywhere, but with the Big 12 to likely crumble I'm not sure NU has any choice. Just going to miss playing the local guys (KU, KState, etc.).

KU and KSU becomes Minnesota and Iowa. Playing Iowa as it is would be pointless.
By the way, this schedule they have this year is embarrassing.

Now I am hearing that they are trying to get to sixteen teams. I don't want Notre Dame anywhere near Nebraska in the news with anything unless they are on the field. I hate that school.

Re: Big 10 has supposedly made it's initial offers
May be a dumb question, but why leave the Big 12?
For being unable to win the Big 12 and it being easier to win the Big 10??
I think the Big 12 is more of an elite conference than the Big 10 as of late.
Weird move.

Re: Big 10 has supposedly made it's initial offers
I guess thats the part I dont understand. Is the Big 10 going to pay Nebraska more than they would get paid in the Big 12?Hoos wrote:It's all about $$$$$$$$$.
Seems like the Big 12 has as much if not more money than the Big 10 but I may be way off base here?
Re: Big 10 has supposedly made it's initial offers
Goddamn there are so many reasons; for Missouri especially.Cnasty wrote:May be a dumb question, but why leave the Big 12?

1. Money. Three words: Big Ten Network. better bowl tie-ins, too.
2. Guaranteed TV contracts. For Nebraska, combined with their PPV sales, they will be shitting money.
3. Educational bump. There is no questioning that Big Ten schools have more respect (I can't comment on what it is in actuality, but considering Mich, Minn, and NW, I would assume it is true) than the Big 12.
4. NO MORE CATERING TO THE FUCKING TEXAS SCHOOLS! This is especially for Missouri.
5. If Pitt and Rutgers are also in, the recruiting area is now gigantic plus (basically everything west of the Rockies and north of Kentucky), even if it fades gradually over time, UNL would still have roots in their old stomping grounds.
6. History. The Big Ten would be the base of nearly every historically great school. This would have a huge impact on fan/corporate interest.
7. You get to beat on Notre Dame and watch all your new brothers do so too.
8. Get to show Michigan what would have happened in 1997.
And, for Trendon, Pitt and Rutgers home games become extremely simple road trips when I return home.

The Iowa State forum is in complete meltdown mode.

Re: Big 10 has supposedly made it's initial offers
And trendon's upset about Nebraska's terrible schedule this year.....
If it happens we better get some good out of conference games....and hopefully we can continue the OU rivalry that everyone here loves.

This made me laugh a lot. The ISU fans are now fighting amongst themselves and the Hawkeye fans started pouring in.
They're jumping in here because there's so many tool-boxes in this thread saying the most stupid, homerish shit I've ever seen. Tons of Hawk fans lurk here and when you post stupid shit it's like the bat symbol for them.

Re: Big 10 has supposedly made it's initial offers
This year's scheduling is awful. I am not buying those games, I'll tell you that. That's $120 they lost. Well, I'm lying, I'll buy the first one.sixpackdan101 wrote:And trendon's upset about Nebraska's terrible schedule this year.....

You have to see their board. They are in total meltdown. One guy was screaming about how bad UNLV and Tulsa suck, lol.sixpackdan101 wrote:fuckin iowa state.....

1. Nebraska brought in $9 million from the Big 12 TV contract last year. Indiana earned $22 million. That is $65 million in 5 years.
2. Access to the CIC. Research group that controls more than $6 Billion in research funding. Basically its a group that has the ears of the federal government and makes sure money flows into its members. ITS A LOT OF MONEY!!!
3. Increase in academic reputation. 7 BT schools in the top 50. Nebraska would be ranked ahead of 2. Nebraska, I believe is in the 50s and is the second highest rated school behind Texas in the B12.
4. You dont get left behind. B12 has a terrible TV contract. They will not be in a position to form their own network because they lack the population the BT has. Texas controls the contract with the two biggest markets (Houston, Dallas) in Texas. If anything, the next contract could be worse if MU bolts and St. Louis and KC are not included. Texas also talking about forming their own network.
5. Big Games. Replace OSU with Texas. PSU with Oklahoma. Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin, and ND with someone else, keep Missouri. You still got once in a while good teams in NU, MSU, Illinois and crap team like Indiana (no offense).
Reasons to not join:
1. Tradition.
2. More competitive non-revenue sports. BT has 6 in the top 20 in cup that measures all sports (I cant remember name).
3. Cold weather games. Big Ten season will be extended into December. NU doesnt play many games in cold weather and it can get cold in PSU and MU.
4. Recruiting. No offense, but the B12 has loser guidelines to get recruits in. The BT has not allowed a project 40 kid in 5 years. They are still a big part of Oklahoma and other B12 classes. NU will have to conform to the BT recruiting guidelines.
