I filed a service request but hope to see if any of you have more expertise on this than all of the internet ... who all just say call Sony.
80010514 and 8001050F are my errors.

Hmmm, Sony is offering to swap mine out for the 120GB slim (for $119 instead of $149 to repair this one). I think I am going to take it as I am sure I can pick up a PS2 for cheap since it is no longer backwards compatible.

What warranty are they offering up on the slim since it's probably a refurb?

What does Gamestop and shit need to see if I were to trade this in and just buy one from there? I am sure if I put my mind to it, I can jimmy rig this thing to work temporarily. I get two different errors depending on whether or not I am connected to the internet.

Trendon,
If you want to trade it in the store has to see that it is able to play a game. When mine started acting up it would play a game briefly before freezing. It passed the test and I traded it in for an 80 gig. If you go for the repair route, use the guys Nole, Beef, and Bigry all used. I think it was like $85 to get it fixed and they saved your data.

Awesome. Stan gave me a lead, too. I will look into this. Otherwise, I will take Sony's offer and trade it in

I've been meaning to ask you this...did you finish Fallout 3? I struggled with the combat system and decided to take a break; of which I haven't yet returned. I keep hearing that if you can get past the first couple of hours of the game that it's greatness. I need to revisit it soon.

Yeah, I finished it as a evil and good guy on three of the four expansions. I am a Fallout historian, though, so there was no questioning this.

I just quit working part time at GameStop, if you can get it working for them to test it you would get full trade in credit.
Unfortunately, I don't know how much you would get, since I have not worked in a few weeks, but you may still be better off taking Sony's deal for $119.
And you have to have the power cord, 1 controller, the USB charging cord for the controller and the A/V cords.

I can't and my brother and I can't either.
My brother found something that says it is down for some reason
http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2010/03/01/ ... -problems/
- Joystiq are reporting that the Playstation Network is currently down, with users experiencing some unusual issues with the service.
The site says that “A wide rash of game-crashing errors is spreading among the PS3-owning community at the moment, most of which can be chalked up to a 8001050F error code. This has led to a variety of unfortunate side-effects for those affected, including corrupted trophy information and an inability to access the PSN. When combined, those two issues prevent players from launching certain games, such as Heavy Rain, without being kicked back to the XMB”.
Perhaps what is more worrying is the comments on the site, with one user saying that he couldn’t play Demon Souls,
There was a problem loading trophies and it said I should quit/reload game, but it makes no difference. Demon Souls trophies have disappeared from trophy list and I’m unable to log in to PSN or sync.
Meanwhile another user said,
When I got disconnected, I was like eh. Fourth time today. So I finish playing Darksiders, and guess what? None of my single player games will boot. Apparently, if you can’t sync for trophies or contact the PSN for data, many games either revert to demo mode or refuse to boot at all.
This all sounds like a worrying development, although for now at least it only seems to be affecting those in the US, which is perhaps something to do with the redesign of Playstation.com.
If you have been affected by this in anyway then please let us know in the comments field below.
