15 people shot in Chicago yesterday... sounds like a normal day there. Yadda yadda, something about Black Lives Matter, strict gun laws, Obama, yadda yadda.

As unfortunate as this sounds, this should probably be in the not so newsworthy thread. It's pathetic there!ReignOnU wrote:15 people shot in Chicago yesterday... sounds like a normal day there. Yadda yadda, something about Black Lives Matter, strict gun laws, Obama, yadda yadda.

What may be most troubling is the last line in the article "No one was in custody in any of the shootings."
With imaging and video technology today, what would it take to blanket the most hard hit Chicago areas with an effective security camera system that, at the least, should lead to better identification and tracking of suspects?

Be happy that Trendon isn't here to chastise you about due process and illegal search and seizure. I'm all for the camerasdakshdar wrote:What may be most troubling is the last line in the article "No one was in custody in any of the shootings."

You think those cameras last 1 week in South Chicago? Good luck with that.

Probably a change in laws, I'd imagine?dakshdar wrote:With imaging and video technology today, what would it take to blanket the most hard hit Chicago areas with an effective security camera system that, at the least, should lead to better identification and tracking of suspects?
Also, how long you think those cameras stay up, 10-15 minutes before they're destroyed?

They'll be sold out of the trunks of cars at least, most likely keeping them in the South SideReignOnU wrote:You think those cameras last 1 week in South Chicago? Good luck with that.

DB Cooper.....
Did he make it out alive or not?
I find it hard to believe that he died from the skydive, I am sure his remains would have been found by now. But at the same time, it has to be pretty difficult to hide that much money in plain sight, unless he was already rich

My guess is that many of the crews sent to install them would be "encouraged" to not install them.GeorgesGoons wrote:They'll be sold out of the trunks of cars at least, most likely keeping them in the South SideReignOnU wrote:You think those cameras last 1 week in South Chicago? Re: Random Discussions
Maybe they need to go "Enemy of the State" style and make it satellite imaging. Or, if that's too expensive, zeppelins.shel311 wrote:Probably a change in laws, I'd imagine?dakshdar wrote:With imaging and video technology today, what would it take to blanket the most hard hit Chicago areas with an effective security camera system that, at the least, should lead to better identification and tracking of suspects?

Re: Random Discussions
Once they truly figure out how to incorporate UAV'S in national airspace that is a great use of technology. Fairly cheap, relative to manned aircraft, longer "on target" times and now some are using HD camera technology. This is probably one of the few ways I would stay in this field stateside, along with mapping Forrest fires and homeland security reasons.dakshdar wrote:Maybe they need to go "Enemy of the State" style and make it satellite imaging. Re: Random Discussions
I know Omaha installed a system in our shitty areas a few years ago that detects gunshots and can triangulate where each round was fired. Supposedly it can also differentiate gunshots from fireworks and leads to much faster response times. I'm sure Chicago already has it, just thought the technology was cool.
