BlackRain wrote:Warriors winning it all, looks like a slam dunk on paper, and they will dominate the west. Does D. Wade join the Cavaliers to make a run at the Warriors? He would have to take less than $20 million per to join them know but he probably goes back to the Heat.
He'd have to take a mid-level exception, I'm guessing.
He'd basically have to take less than what Miami will offer him, a lot less.
Considering Miami isn't get KD or Horford, I'm guessing they can throw a ton of money at Wade now, so I'd expect him back in miami with a new deal soon.

Yeah, Wade wants a max deal, so he would return to the Heat. Only way he goes to the Cavaliers is he accepts the mid level exception. ESPN says it depends on his financials, if he is good or needs the money with the Heat. Just imagine him in Cleveland with James, Love and Irving....

Probably Cleveland bias in this somehow... but I'm not sure it's a "massive" upgrade to the team overall. Obviously adding one of the top 5 players in the league is great. But a good chunk of that offense is predicated on Draymond Green's passing/driving ability. Adding Durant likely means that Green will be doing less of that and Durant will be taking over that role. The team really doesn't have an issue scoring. It does mean that offense likely funnels through a better scorer... but in terms of driving/distributing, how much better is he than Green? Is this a piece that they really needed? I don't like Green personally, but I definitely recognize that he's damn good at what he does.
I don't see how this makes them that much more effective against the Cavs either. Curry - Thompson - Durant - Green - ???. I don't think Durant's defense is better than Iggy's. Maybe Iggy is the ??? in that scenario.
Regardless, looking forward to their pursuit of 74, because they will have a helluva shot at it.

Remember all those wide open shots Barnes had in the Finals? Now imagine those are going to KD.
I think having less bench won't be that important, especially in the playoffs. When you have 4 elite players, you can always have 1-2 on the court for an entire game.
The biggest concern now is who will be their rim protector.

Barnes was 34.2% from 3pt on 3.2 attempts per game during the regular season playoffs. Durant was 28.2% on 6.1 attempts. Bad stretches happen.

Barnes shoots basically nothing but wide open 3s. KD does not. Not sure why we're debating which is a better shooter lol.
Gasol to the Spurs, as Duncan is leaning towards retirement.

The Cavs just followed DWade and Gabrielle Union on Twitter and IG. Wade and his wife followed back and followed JR Smith.
NBA Free Agency is fantastic!!!

I blame Whiteside
i hope to god Bosh plays next year... the Heat will be fine, not championship caliber, but they'll still be fine with that roster if Bosh is able to play

I get why Wade feels slighted. They paid Dragic. They paid Whiteside. They offered Wade $10mil/year because they were going to pay KD. And Wade's just wondering what else he has to do, other than bring 3 titles, to get paid.
But at the same time I get why Miami wanted to keep the KD option open and probably still wants to keep options open for next season's frenzy as well.
Tough situation all around.

Then you possibly lose flexibility in next year's free agency spectacle.

these teams/players have to be making back door deals.
if Wade doesn't have some deal in place with Arison about a post NBA career or partial ownership or something then he's a complete fool for taking the discounts he's taken over time.
and if Lebron wants Wade in Cleveland, he can slip him the extra cash thru some 3rd party business deal and nobody would ever know.
this is one of the unintended consequences of these dudes making so much money. in 10-15 years these stories will come out and we'll be auditing players when they sign contracts to make sure it doesn't happen.
