What is up with OF Jim Petty? This guy has been bounced back and forth between Phoenix and Philly 3 times before finally moving to Ohio on his 4th stint on the waiver wire. Is there something wrong with this guy??

04/15/2024 Got claimed off waivers by Phoenix while with Philadelphia.
04/29/2024 Got claimed off waivers by Philadelphia while with Phoenix.
05/13/2024 Got claimed off waivers by Phoenix while with Philadelphia.
07/01/2024 Got claimed off waivers by Ohio while with Phoenix.

LOL, that's fucking hysterical.

You'd think that the team that has him would forget trying to waive him and put him on the trade block to see if they could get something in return instead of outright losing him. Whudafukenthunkit.

I'm taking a chance on this guy, but what do I have to lose at this point?

basically phoenix and philly wanted him in there minors, and the other wouldn't let them. he may as well sit on ohio's team, get experience and hopefully be a steal for him.

Usami announces he's retiring after this season.

he's had a hell of a career. hopefully he finishes the 2nd half strong cause he's been pretty shitty the first half of the year.

nothing wrong with him he's a good kid, but who ever had him first fucked him up in a way? they brought him up way to fast (in my opinion) and burned up his options! he's not at this time ml ready and I didn't have room on my roster with my injury woes to keep him there! he might still be a stud someday yet? but no way in hell should a 21 year old have no options left! whoever did this to him is a @#$%^@!###@# (promise Dave I wouldn't be so hard on folks lol)!!!

Beefy, he was an international find who demanded money. If you have a money contract, your options get burned up.

Nobody called him up early, it was the same thing with Felix Silva when I found and signed him. That's why he never got to develop in the minors.

For options, this is what the OOTP site states:

How Minor League Option Years Work
Players start out with 3 minor league option years. As soon as a player spends one day on the secondary roster without being on the active roster, he is considered to be on 'optional assignment.' The moment the player has spent one day in this scenario, he uses one of his three minor league options

In reading this, it has nothing to do with money.

Can a player be under a minor league contract yet be listed on your secondary roster?
Or does putting him on your secondary upgrade his contract to the 480k salary?

The second he signs a contract, he automatically goes onto the 40 man.

thanks for not answering my question Shel.

I asked, can a guy be on a minor league contract, but be placed on the 40 man or will his contract be upgraded to the 480k min as soon as you place him on the 40 man?

I ask because if a player with a minor league contract can be placed on your 40 man, then I have a couple that have wasted an option year or two.

You can put a player on a minor league deal on 40 man. This is how you protect your rule 5 guys.

Thing is, once on 40 man come ST they get called up, And if you dont send them down before the last sim, They will start the 480k.

To be fair, I answered the relevant question to the topic at hand, which was this specific player. How was I to know your question was actually about 2 players from your team?

No
Yes

With this guy having no options, I have on other choice but to keep him on my ML team. But with the level of talent on my team and how the season is going, this guy is going right into a lineup and he's actually the leadoff hitter in one lineup
