I dont think Edelman does anything if he goes somewhere else without Tom and the system ala Welker.

I'd say a world class offense and great defensive minded HC helps defensive rankingsshel311 wrote:Scoring Defense rankings for Patriots defenses during Brady's Super Bowl winning seasons:

Brady made similar money to Brees while also playing with top defenses...DRWebs wrote:Brees had the chance to potentially play with a team having a top defense but elected to sign new deals with NO what, twice now?
shel311 wrote:Probably not as much as you'd think. Drew Brees has had a world class offense the last 10 years, his average defensive ranking is 22(Brady 6th).
Brady is better than Brees, that's not my argument. It's just to laugh at those who put so much emphasis on THE RINGS!!!
using the corey eye test theorem i've always been of the belief the dink and dunk style of the Pats keeps the D off the field and helps their overall data. The Pats put up the points but it is more of a grind on them until they break and start fucking up type game rather than the Saints who seem to get huge chunks of the field and throw for huge yards from beginning to end (and the Saints also get alot of their points really late in games from my experience watching and don't have overall game advantage). i think that really helps the defense, especially early in the game before the other teams get into 'come back' mode. then when it is comeback time, the Pats defense can sit back and play pass and send rushers.shel311 wrote:Probably not as much as you'd think. obviously the Saints defense is trash and the Pats is far better, but i definitely think there is alot of defensive credit that should be placed on the offense and then the overall nature of the coaching philosophy.
thats a lot more opinion then i'm typically comfortable giving without data (i'm not even sure how to back it up with data).but i think football is a much more 'eye test' type sport than some of the others we watch based on the amount of moving parts.
Pats seem to grind the clock more and turn it over less which brees does a lot giving the other team better fields positionshel311 wrote:This season, 53% of Brees's yards come through the air, 50% for Brady.
I don't think that will go very far in explaining the difference between the #1 defense and a bottom 5 defense.

Last year it was less than 1%...they're both dink and dunkers.
These are both things you do when you have a good defense that you can't really do as much when you don't.ajalves wrote:Pats seem to grind the clock more and turn it over less which brees does a lot giving the other team better fields position
I don't think anyone is arguing these two facts, I just think their respective offenses contribute to those facts to varying degreesshel311 wrote:the Saints defense is historically bad, the Pats are consistently top 3-5.
