This.

Penalties on both teams offset and replay the down. This is partially because you can't enforce two penalties on one play against the same team. I think the only exception may be for when one team commits a 15 yard penalty and the other a 5 yard penalty. Then the 15 yard is enforced.

but... SPORTS!
Right here especially the human element of play calling and bone headed decisions as we saw.

Was there any single doubt that the moment they punted to the Patriots they were going to not only tie the game but win it. None whatsoever in my mind and I was hoping I was completely wrong.

Aikman kept saying how many plays the Falcons offense had run and how absolutely crazy it was being low like 33 or something.

That D was gassed and the offense didn't do anything to help in that tornado of a comeback.

NE: 88 plays
ATL: 41 plays

Could be wrong but I can only imagine it was even more lopsided in the 2nd half, obviously.

The Patriots have won 5 SBs.

The Patriots led last night's game for exactly 0 seconds.

Last night's game was the biggest margin of victory for the Patriots in their 5 SB wins.

Makes perfect sense.

Every time Brady threw the ball I kept saying in my head his receivers are Julius Edelman, Danny Amendola, and Chris Hogan.

My mind could not comprehend this even though he has been doing this for years that this was his receiving group that he was going to throw for like 500 yards with and win a Super Bowl.

Then I went and watched Brady's combine footage and my mind had many more questions.

Chicken or the egg?

I dont think Edelman does anything if he goes somewhere else without Tom and the system ala Welker.

1 thing I've never understood(and granted maybe not so much last night) is that Brady just always seems to have wide open WRs everywhere. Most passes he throws, guys are all alone with no one within 10 yards of them.

I don't know if it's Belichick or how they scheme or if my eyes are just deceiving me, but I watch the other great QBs nowadays, and I never seem to see them just throwing pitch and catch to wide open dudes as routinely as Brady does.

He either finds the open guy better than anyone ever, or it's the scheme. Maybe some of each.

To be fair, if they run it 3 times, then miss the 40 yd FG, I think youd ridicule them pretty good for being so conservative

I think that would absolutely be the media rally cry because they'll always blame someone when you blow a 25 point lead.

But I certainly wouldn't have blamed ATL there. I believe Matt Bryant didn't miss a single kick under 40 yards this season, I couldn't blame them for playing for that.

Edelman and Amendola are so freaking quick though. They run those slants, outs, and ins and when they make their breaks on the cuts it looks like they never even slow down. DBs just get left in the dust. I think you have to try to be more physical with them and jam them up but they're quick enough and crafty enough to evade those jams and get a step ahead of the DBs.
