Great game between Serbia and Australia. Australia is think qualifying with 2 more goals (4 total) when Serbia scores and now with 2 goals, they are thinking about qualifying.

Great Day at the World Cup...suspense everywhere! Great move to have both games in the group at the same time. Just adds to the drama!

The simultaneous match thing is to prevent collusion. It's a brilliant move and adds soooo much drama.

I didn't realize Serbia was losing; hard to believe they fell apart like that, wow.

ummm, or ghana wins and germany doesnt even make it to next round... thats a better option
hell if both games tie, germanys out. Serbia and Germany would have same points and Serbia beat Germany HTH
Unless I am mistaken, head-to-head never comes into play.

Agree, I like that they make the matches simultaneous. Think that makes for even more drama. My son is @ soccer camp at IU in Bloomington. He said everyone was in the one dorm that had a.c., watching the game before training, said half of the guys were crying - typical soccer guy:)

This is why apparently:
Group 2 saw one of the great World Cup upsets on the first day with the 2–1 victory of Algeria over reigning European Champions West Germany. In the final match in the group between West Germany and Austria, Algeria had already played their final group game the day before, and West Germany and Austria knew that a West German win by 1 or 2 goals would qualify them both, while a larger German victory would qualify Algeria over Austria, and a draw or an Austrian win would eliminate the Germans. After 10 minutes of all-out attack, West Germany scored through a goal by Horst Hrubesch. After the goal was scored, the two teams kicked the ball around aimlessly for the rest of the match. Chants of "Fuera, fuera" ("Out, out") were screamed by the Spanish crowd, while angry Algerian supporters waved banknotes at the players. This performance was widely deplored, even by the German and Austrian fans. One German fan was so upset by his team's display that he burned his German flag in disgust.[1] Algeria protested to FIFA, who ruled that the result be allowed to stand; FIFA introduced a revised qualification system at subsequent World Cups in which the final two games in each group were played simultaneously.
Can you imagine watching that?

Why would there be collusion.

Every team today could still advance if they won right? The only collusion would come from the Referee camp, and that is for sure a possibility IMO. def. more than a teams collusion.

Sorry my ADD kicked in about the second sentence. lol

Now on to Saturday: This is essentially single elimination?
And not Draws. We now have penalty kicks after Extra time/

Correct.

90 minutes of regulation.

Then, if needed, two fifteen-minute periods of XT with a two min break between. NO GOLDEN GOAL, you play all 30 min.

Then if still needed, 5 on 5 PKs, and if STILL not decided, you advance to further rounds until one team scores and the other doesn't.

sorry for the nole-patented DP, but where do you get lineups pre-game?

I'm really hoping that the Dutch don't sit everyone, but I would think they are going to do it

Soccernet will post them as soon as they're available on the "Gamecast" for the match.

Team sheets don't have to be turned in until 45 min before the match.
