Golfers
Re: Golfers
you love that club! 7 times in 9 holes, impressive stuff
i shot a 43 on my front 9 sunday (+7) , that was my best 9 ever had but only had a 49 on the back. i am scoring around the 90-95 range consistently now. its a nice improvement but i know i have a ton of areas i could be dropping strokes off.
i wasn't even breaking 100 just a couple months ago so i can't complain much but its still so frustrating

Re: Golfers
Yeah I can't pitch-and-run for shit, so it's pretty much the only club I use inside about 70 yards.
That's fantastic progress/ improvement, it took me years to get under 100 consistently

Re: Golfers
Finally got a round in on Sunday at a pretty decent course (Yankee Trace). It's been about 8-9 weeks since I've played a round and all I've done in between is hit of mats (yuck). I tried my tags for the first time... and I felt totally out of sync. I went triple-triple-double to start the round, then proceeded to shut the app down and try to get out of the funk. It wasn't a pretty round from a score standpoint, because I shot a 55 on the front and 49 on the back. But I was thrilled with what I saw once I settled down.
Drives were really strong, with only 2 of them costing me penalty strokes. On 1, I was swinging well and felt like going for a par 4 that was 315 to the center... crushed it pin high (front position), but it took a hard kick just off the left side of the green and ended up OB. The other one I blew through a dog leg into a creek, probably around 280ish. I was feeling really good and through I could pull off a little draw and the draw would take a few yards off of it and set it up well for the approach.
My wedge game was hilarious. So for my practices, I've taken my 8, 5 and driver to the range and worked solely on swing speed, hands, and lag. It's produced some sensational results. The issue here is that all I've done for 2 months are full swings. My first 3 wedge shots blew right over the green. Not even remotely close. 2 were lost for strokes into the woods. 1 put me behind 4 pine trees with no real way to go back at the pin. My hands were so fast into impact and it was basically just the natural result of my practicing. I finally settled down some with the wedge as the round went on.
To go with that, my irons caused some similar results on approaches. It's been a crazy transition, because 4 years ago my distances looked like this:
PW - 120
9 - 130
8 - 140
7 - 150
6 - 165
5 - 180
Then I grabbed those RocketBladez a couple of years ago and they changed to:
PW - 130
9 - 140
8 - 150
7 - 160
6 - 180
5 - 200
With this new swing, it's another huge jump and I'm still trying to trust the distances:
PW - 140
9 - 150
8 - 160
7 - 175
6 - 190
5 - 210
These are all carry distances from a full swing... it is absolutely crazy. I still hit some inconsistent shots that end up a little closer to my last set of distances, but that is about what I would consider a low range.
I spent at least 5-6 years tinkering with stuff in my swing where instructors or other people had recommended slowing down my swing or trying to find a plane, etc. Such a waste of time. I'm a firm believer in what I've been following for the last 4 months or so. I'm 100% committed to these concepts and I'm a sold on Haney's instruction, even if it does seem overly simplified. It's an absolute game changer having this kind of distance and I can self-diagnose the problems right as I'm playing.
As for the golf tags... I actually took most of them off as I used my clubs during the round. I'll revisit them when I'm playing more frequently... maybe next season. I'm going to go back to swing-by-swing for the GPS/distances and basic score keeping.

Re: Golfers
Anyone play the TaylorMade SLDR driver or fairway woods?
I currently still play the R9s and am looking at an upgrade, but not ready to pay $400 for the R15. I've been looking on ebay and see some very good prices on new ones. The problem is that I am a lefty and going into a Golfsmith, etc. type place rarely has exactly what I want to test out. I'm looking at the orignal SLDR model for the adjustable loft and sliding weight for draw/fade. The S model got rid of the loft adjustment and the C model got rid of both loft and sliding weight (not sure how that can even be called a SLDR, but I digress). Without being able to try one out, I figure my best bet is to go at the original with the most versatility and if I hate it, I can just put it back on ebay and recoup most of my money.
Thoughts?

Re: Golfers
the SLDR's are super cheap right now for some reason. i know nothing about the club other than i've seen the price reduced by a ton on them recently

Re: Golfers
Picked up a brand new TP model for $99 on eBay earlier tonight including shipping. Can't go wrong for that price and should be a significant upgrade from the R9.

Re: Golfers
Just played the Makai course in Kauai which National Geographic says is the prettiest course in all of North America. Wish I played better but wow was it gorgeous.
Re: Golfers
Walked a quick 9 this morning, hit my wedges about as well as I ever have. Had some bad shots, but recovered decently. Played the par 5s very conservatively, laying up with short irons to set up better approaches. The up and down on 2 was my best shot of the day, over a tree and on to the fringe just right, playing a down sloping green and nestled about a foot away. Some luck, but Ill take it

Re: Golfers
Went golfing yesterday here in Virginia. Actually shot pretty decent for me. Ended the day with a 104. But I actually played a lot better than that. On the 4 par 5s I par'd one of them and then the other 3 I was +14 (9,9,11). So I shot a +18 on the other 15 holes.
The clubhouse had a mixed bag of clubs to use for free or some Calloway's for $30. I'm not good enough to justify paying an extra $30 for some clubs, although I wish I did yesterday. The mixed clubs were horrible, a 7.5 degree driver that was at least 30 years old, 5,6,7,8,PW,SW,LW and 2 putters. I didn't realize the driver was nothing more than a 2x4 until the back 9 when the frustration level of not hitting that club good all day finally got me to put in in the bag for good. I ended up using my 5 iron to tee off with for the rest of the round. Had I used my 5 iron from the beginning I could have taken off 5-7 strokes easily and possibly much more when looking at those par 5's. Now I'll go next week and shoot a 130 or something.
Best part about golfing yesterday was I didn't have to watch that shitshow of a Husker game. Trying to be patient with Riley but I didn't like the firing of Bo to begin with and wasn't a fan of bringing in a 62 year old man to try and "turn" a program around.

Re: Golfers
Shot a 110 today on probably the hardest course I ever played on. To make it even worst the whole course was wet as hell. Only had 2 pars but drove much better today.

Re: Golfers
Shot my worst round in probably 4 years on Thursday. Taking a month + off between rounds is killing me. Luckily I've got some time off the next 2 months to refine the game

Re: Golfers
so I'm an idiot. I've always really made good contact with my high irons and wedges but struggled with anything above a 6 or 7 to the point where I can't drive a lick. went out with my buddy the other day and he suggested I choke up on the club a bit. Amazing. Were talking like 95% of the balls were in the air with good solid contact. not getting a ton of distance but whatever, 1 step at a time.

Re: Golfers
First round of the year for me yesterday. Perfect, 70 degree weather when only last weekend we got 3 inches of snow
https://www.golfpadgps.com/round/R9Y7DH#1
Struck the ball really well by my standards, and made a couple longer putts to help pad the score. Unfortunately the course doesnt really lend itself to needing long irons much, so a lot of driver to short iron/wedge holes. Felt good to get back out there though

Also, to anyone who was interested in club tracking systems last year, the golf tabs I use are now compatible with iPhone in addition to android.
