Bill Self calling it like it is...

http://cjonline.com/sports/catzone/2016 ... ssless-act
Self apologized to "the K-State team, their program, coaches (and) players" for an uncontested dunk by junior Brannen Greene with one second left in the 18-point victory.

"It was totally classless," Self said, not mentioning Greene by name. "I guarantee you it will never happen again."

Self held back even less in his radio interview just minutes after the game.

"Brannen Greene, we've put up with him doing some stuff in the past, but that was probably the biggest dick move I've ever had a player do during a game," Self said. "To dunk the ball like that when the other team — even their players are going, 'How disrespectful to the game.'

Classless. Game is a blowout, no reason for it. Kind of like the 35 point rule.

The pussification of the world continues. Maybe Kansas should of let them score so it could of been closer and everyone wins.

That rant by Self is hilarious. Just a bit of overreacting.

Is it? Who does it reflect on? The kid? Or the coach? He put it all on the kid, and quickly tried to deflect the image away from himself. Ultimately it reflects on the program and the things he is trying to teach.

He took a basketball and shot it in a hoops, fwiw. Was at it the best time? No, but at the end of the day, he shot a layup.

these same programs tell kids theyre gonna sign them and then when a better player comes along they rescind that schollie and fuck the kid. dont tell me about classless because a kid who probably doesnt play much dunked a ball in the final seconds. Had he dunked with 24 seconds left would it of been ok? Was it cause it was a dunk? Should they have stopped scoring when up say 10?

Isn't KState a typical Tournament team and also a rival? I'd dunk on one of their grandmas standing under the rim and tea bag her.

People are soft as fuck lately man. Too much gender fluidity coming to sports.

It isn't about the action of putting a ball in a hoop. They did it enough to be up 18. It isn't about the "Game" it's about the sportsmanship, which apparently that isn't a priority in anyone's eyes anymore.

I get what you are saying, but it isn't as simple as you say.

I agree with nick in the fact that there is a "pussification" going on in our culture, but at the same rate if a player from the losing team would have retaliated in any way shape or form, then they would be looked down upon. It's a double edged sword, but coaches are trying to win at the same time as teaching morals and values. Tough in this day and age.

Because it isn't remotely something worth retaliating for.

I imagine Self has seen punches thrown, a million cheap shots, and just all kinds of stuff in his years of basketball. But a guy making a layup is the worst thing he's ever seen? Yea, that's an overreaction.

My honest take is that most people just find it classless cause other people do and it's just the norm and how we've always viewed it. There's no real or actual reason to be so offended by such an irrelevant action, if you think about what we're actually talking about.

It's like a .00001 of 10 on the scale of things Self should be focusing on after a game IMO. Just call the kid a knucklehead, laugh, and tell him he'll run an extra suicide or 2 if he does it again.

Just off the top of my head, I'm trying to think of similarities in other sports.

Baseball: Team is up 15-0 in the bottom of the 8th, top of the 9th. Of course you aren't going to stop playing, but lets say you bunt for a basehit, or steal a base after a walk. You know, hustle plays, but you are up 15 in the last half inning.

Football: Instead of taking a knee on Victory formation you fake the spike and dude runs down for TD uncontested because the other team stopped playing.

Hockey: Pull the goalie with 30 seconds left and score with 6 men on the ice up 5-0

I'm just thinking off the top of my head. Are those also just chuckle it off, it's part of the game?

terrible comparisons. If Kansas was standing around and KState were too and it looked like the clocks gonna run out and he just sprints down the court and dunks, then comparable.

This is comparable to running the clock and a HB going up the gut and having a clear run to the endzone and scoring
in hockey this is up 5-0 and get a breakaway
in baseball this is a home run in the 9th up big.

So because it wasn't a sprint situation? 3 out of your 4 were met. Standing around, Clock running out, Dunks. But because it wasn't a sprint...Gotcha.

I'm not trying to overplay it, just being devil's advocate. It was a nonchalant ho hum thing that the kid didn't think was a big deal, but it's the image that matters to Schools and Admin. And it reflects on the coach.

Kids are more likely not to sign because theyre embarrassed for Self than a pointless dunk in game like 15 of 30 lol.
