Wow, I had very little respect for Digger Phelps before tonight....but it's all gone now

@kysportsradio:
Outside UK locker room Digger Phelps stops Randle and screams "hey Strickland, u gonna teach these guys free throws." Randle NOT amused
I honestly thought Julius Randle was going to punch Digger Phelps...
Some UK folks not amused about Digger's comments to Randle. Wrong place, wrong time and very obnoxious

You would never see someone like Dickie V or Jalen or any of the other on-air talent ESPN has mocking a kid who just played his ass off like this. Completely unprofessional. I've never heard of anybody doing that to a college kid, any school, any commentator.

I only quoted this one because of the gif.
But do you want to watch basketball or free throw shooting contests?

Those are some cheap shots right there. Never had respect for him either.

I can't stand the tie/highlighter matching thing Digger does.

I’m really not a big fan of the enforced touch fouls right now. I hope the players adjust because a free throw battle isn’t very fun to watch. At this rate, the national champ will be the team that can hit the most free throws. Crown them!

I think the more relevant question is how much NBA are you watching ? :)

i never took in the NBA when watching it before, I simply just kinda half watched it. but recently I've spent time watching sets and players defending and anyone who says NBA players cant defend is being lazy or doesnt watch  . its insane how much movement, screens and shit go on in 1 play that seperate a defender from a potential shooter. I would 100% run into a centers screen at least once a possession if i was in the NBA.

That's the thing. People think if guys aren't slapping the floor Dukie style, or down in a perfect defensive stance for an entire possession then they aren't playing defense. What they don't realize is that NBA scouting reports are so thorough and so detailed the players often times aren't defending players they're guarding opponents' tendencies and strengths. A typical NBA scouting report will tell you how often a guy goes right or left, how many dribbles he takes on average and what he does based on how far he's moved or what part of the floor he's on and even more than that.

and far more than that.. but great post.

the other thing general basketball fans don't understand is that running around trapping and leaving your guy isn't good defense. the reason its not done in the NBA is because an open jumper is being hit nearly at will in the NBA where as college you can cheat off a player and give a lesser guy an open 15 footer he might only hit 40% of the time. where as in the NBA that same 15 footer uncontested is being hit 75% of the time.

NBA defense is insanely good, NBA basketball is insanely good. its not even really fair to compare it to college because its not really the same sport due to the talent differences and size differences.

40-0 would be nice, but it was unlikely. The team had the talent to do it, but talent isn't enough to overcome 16 missed FTs and 17 turnovers.

Besides, that's not the ultimate goal. Winning in Dallas is. And the kids were angry and very upset at themselves after the game, which is what you want to see. Last year's team just didn't care.

The best part to me was seeing the IU fans celebrating like our season was somehow over because we lost by 4 to the #2 team in the nation. Guess that's what happens when your school raises banners and gives out rings for Sweet 16 appearances

No, that's what happens when your fanbase is the most arrogant and obnoxious one in the country and your coach is a cheating scumbag.

I'm always amazed by how nonchalantly fans will throw out the "players didn't care" line.

Proof? Any charges ever levied against him? It's odd how most coaches respect and are friends with him...like Tom Izzo

And at least our fanbase has a reason to be arrogant. I've dealt with arrogant IU fans (not you) for years, and they have had no reason to be so.
