I didn't see the actual threat in this thread so here it is...

"Hello, SONY.
We are Anonymous.

It has come to the attention of the Anonymous activist community that you have chosen to stand by the Stop Online Piracy Act. This act will halt online businesses and restrict access to many sites for many users. Supporting SOPA is like trying to throw an entire company from off a bridge. Your support to the act is a signed death warrant to SONY Company and Associates. Therefore, yet again, we have decided to destroy your network. We will dismantle your phantom from the internet. Prepare to be extinguished. Justice will be swift, and it will be for the people, whether some like it or not. Sony, you have been warned.

To those doubting our powers. We've infiltrated the servers of Bank of America, The United States Department of Defense, The United Nations, and Lockheed Martin. In one day.

For their approval to SOPA, we have also declared that our fury be brought upon the following persons. Justin Bieber. Lady Gaga. Kim Kardashian. and Taylor Swift.

Operation Blackout, engaged.
Operation Mayhem, engaged.
Operation LulzXmas, engaged.

We are Anonymous.
We are Legion.
We do not forgive.
We do not forget.
Supporters of SOPA, you should've expected us."

Then you don't know what the fuck you are talking about because Jay and I are probably the most positive people in the league; that nasty comment notwithstanding.

I'm very positive, I just have my eyes open and see the writing on the wall. I was a history major, and the adage is true--those who don't know their history are doomed to repeat it.

Also, I've been reminded that Anonymous didn't hack PSN last time, Lulzsec did. They were not one and the same.

These guys are just overly technical vandals and thrillseekers. They're no different than kids who go out and break shit and vandalize stuff just for shits and giggles and the thrill of getting away with it. The only difference is that they claim to have some sort of social conscience or political agenda in order to legitimize themselves.

I'm guessing you had to post this because of your inside contact and fear of anonymous coming after you.

...no, I posted it because people said anonymous (myself included) took them down over the summer and they didn't. I try to be factually correct. I had this pointed out to me and thus corrected it. Lulzsec dismembered but many of their members now assist anonymous.

It sounds more like you are talking about politicians than any loosely-assembled group of computer nerds. The people who fly the flag of Anonymous are a response clique. They do not terrorize people for personal gain. Yeah, sometimes they have their direction screwed up but if you look at it from a POSITIVE point of view, for every one thing you are not doing to help yourself and your fellow US citizen, they will do two things.

You should be thankful for them like you should be thankful for Occupy. Tyranny needs to be defended.

And by talking about this we can do what? If the assholes are gonna tear down the network then so be it. If they don't then great we can go on with our lives.

I kept up with this thread when it was page 1, but now it is on page 4 and im to lazy at the moment to read pages 2-3, has it been determined when the network is expected to go down? Its not going to be at midnight on January 1, is it?

please don't tell me how much good you're doing by using illegal and terroririzing acts to do it.

its as simple as that.

ultimately, as long as democracy is alive, we'll get it figured out. whether you want to be a 'doom and gloom' guy or not... democracy will fix and overcome most mistakes. it is true, most people don't know (myself included) about this act and most people don't care... its the same as it was 100 years ago or 25 years ago, our country didn't just become lazy about government, we're just older now and we understand better. to resort to acts of violence or terror or criminal activity to try to make 'change' will never get my support, regardless of how much good it is intended to do.

We may as well fold the league now, there's no point in continuing.

We're all DOOMED!!!!

and unfortunately dave....that is why radicals THRIVE in our time. We allow them to terrorize. And then act like the end of the world is coming.

demonstrations and illegal acts are two totally different worlds.

i support the idea of occupy wall street because i believe in free speech and i believe in the right to protest regardless of how idiotic and incorrect i think the people protesting are. i don't support damaging companies or damaging consumers with illegal acts to get an idea across. its a pretty dangerous precedent to set by telling people an 'anonymous' group of people hiding behind computers can disrupt our society and thats supposed to be a positive thing.

I can't really wrap my mind around the idea of supporting them or getting all giddy about their letters and cool youtube videos with the mask from that hideous movie.

It's ridiculous.

Agreed, Anytime you effect innocent people to try and get your point across, MAJORITY of the time it is not a good thing.

Therein lies the problem--democracy is dead, it has been for 20 years. We live in an oligarchy, and the longer it takes people to realize it, the worse off we will be when we do.

And I guess you wouldn't have supported the Founding Fathers either then, what they did was "illegal" and considered terrorism by today's standards.

I would agree if I had any confidence in people like you, me, and the other 118 guys in here to do anything. Like I said earlier, I write a letter and email politicians and I open myself up to being called "crazy" and getting pranked ... like I am some old cat lady. That says to me that people don't do anything that would allow democracy* to "figure it out." You won't do shit to fight any injustice because you have your great job, beautiful girl, and great life. I won't do shit because I am too busy trying to fight for my next meal. Some others won't do so because they are parents now. And we are all assholes because of it; terrorists in our own right.

Let's assume Anonymous flagwavers and the people they are fighting are the same level of evil and idiocy, which I'll buy ... then the enemy of my enemy is my friend, no matter how fucking warped they are.

* - This is about as much of a democracy as the NDL is a professional sports league.
