who gives a shit. Jeter used to win the gold glove for SS year after year and there were tons of better defensive shortstops. Only 25% of the final vote of something goes to sabrmetrics so you still have stupid voters giving stupid results.

Do these mega FA deals ever pay off? Feel like it's a 75:25 they end up as mistakes whether it be performance drop off or moreso injury

depends what your perception of 'mistake' is.
you can get the full value of an entire deal the first 3 years and then have a shitty back end where the player is vastly overpaid.
