Re: NFL Thread
Im confused but need clarification from nick.
First, I thought he posted that terrible joke just to bait coug.
So I played the oh shit guy in the back.
If he thought it was a good joke and wasnt a bait job towards coug, i apologize.

Re: NFL Thread
This season, Lynch got the ball five times at the opponent’s 1-yard line. He scored just once.
Seahawks vs. Broncos, Sept. 21: Lynch loses one yard.
Seahawks vs. Giants, Nov. 9 (first quarter): Lynch touchdown.
Seahawks vs. Giants, Nov. 9 (second quarter): Lynch loses one yard.
Seahawks vs. Giants, Nov. 9 (third quarter): Lynch no gain.
Seahawks vs. 49ers, Nov. 27: Lynch no gain.
Over his career, Lynch has had 36 carries from the opponent’s 1-yard line. More often than not, he didn’t reach the end zone. He scored on 15 of those carries, or 41.7 percent of the time. On 12 of those carries, he did not gain a yard. On nine of them, he lost yardage.
How do Lynch’s numbers from the 1 stack up against other running backs in the league? Not all that great. “Among 39 running backs with at least 10 carries from the 1-yard line in the past 5 seasons (incl. playoffs), Lynch’s touchdown percentage (45 percent) ranks 30th,” reports ESPN Stats and Info.
Lynch isnt exactly that automatic from 1 yard out + going against a goal line defense waiting for it.
But ya, dumbest play in NFL history.

Re: NFL Thread
Patriots also gave up 5 TDs on 6 tries from the 1.
Re: NFL Thread
Then what better way to waste a play if that truly is what they wanted to do, then to go with a run that they apparently wouldn't have been successful at.

its the dumbest play in NFL history and its not remotely close.
run someone else then if you don't think he can make it based on the stats posted above.

Re: NFL Thread
I agree it's the dumbest playcall and it's not close. I don't agree that the reason it's dumb is simply due to passing.DRiccio21 wrote:its the dumbest play in NFL history and its not remotely close.

A Lynch playaction, with Wilson sprinting the other way with the option to either throw to a possible wide open TE in the back corner, run it in, or throw it away is just as good of a call as a run on 2nd down IMO.
Another funny stat I heard, from the 1 yard line this season, there were 66 TD passes and 1 INT. Ouch!!! My main issue is that pass has so many things that can go wrong, from what actually happened to a batted ball, to the WR dropping the ball and it popping up in the air for a linebacker. The PA pass has to be so much lower in terms of the minute chance of a turnover.

Re: NFL Thread
Dumbest playcall ever would be kicking a FG, then afterwards saying, "I thought we were only down 3, and we felt we had a better shot in overtime."

Re: NFL Thread
So when Lebron passes up a last second shot and its ok because of the percentages, thats fine, but when the Seahawks throw on the 1, which has a 66TD to 0 INT ratio before this game, and you have Lynch who is statistically not that good from 1 yard out, its the dumbest play in history?

Re: NFL Thread
That's assuming the 66 TDs were all thrown with the same quick slant over the middle.nick wrote:So when Lebron passes up a last second shot and its ok because of the percentages, thats fine, but when the Seahawks throw on the 1, which has a 66TD to 0 INT ratio before this game, and you have Lynch who is statistically not that good from 1 yard out, its the dumbest play in history?

You're also being selective and not even using similar stats. For one, you're using only Lynch, for the other one, you're using the entire NFL. You're not using how the entire NFL goes in from the 1 running or how SEA does passing from the 1, and also ignoring the Patriots giving up a TD run 5 of 6 times from the 1.
Re: NFL Thread
Adam Schefter: “I thought the real key part of that play was that New England brought on its goal-line defense, and when New England brought on its goal-line defense, that was when Seattle went to the three-wide receiver package,” Schefter said, adding: “The bottom line for that is that New England dictated to Seattle rather than Seattle dictating to New England the type of play that was going to be run. … Obviously that worked out very very well for the New England Patriots.”
also where is this 5 of 6 thing? I found Lynches inability to score pretty easily but ive googled different ways of "allowing 5 tds outta 6 attempts from 1 yard out" and i cant seem to find any

Re: NFL Thread
I found the 5 touchdowns, 4 run, 1 pass, 2 from NYJ, 1 from Buffalo, 1 from Denver and a passing TD from Indy. I cant find all the stops though

Cant find it at the moment, I hear it thrown out last week a few times on a couple of radio shows.nick wrote:I found the 5 touchdowns, 4 run, 1 pass, 2 from NYJ, 1 from Buffalo, 1 from Denver and a passing TD from Indy. I cant find all the stops though
There's also these 2 tweets from @harvardsports:
The Pats allowed opponents to score 81% of the time in power situations (runs on 3rd/4th & <2, or w/i 2 yds of goalline). Dead last in NFL.
So yes, Lynch was 1 of 5 converting from the 1, but that sample size, when it's drawn out a bit more and manipulated, you can see he was still good in short yardage, and the Pats were the worst in the NFL inside the 2 yardline on 3rd/4th down.SEA was second in the league in power situations, getting stuffed just 17% of the time. Lynch converted 17 of 20 3rd/4ths & short this year.
