thought it was supposed to be 13 psi and it was 11psi instead
If it didn't make a difference in the game would they bother having a rule against it?ajalves wrote:who cares about 2 lbs PSI.
i understand there is a difference. However, to me its no different than a pitcher with pine tar on the brim of his hat or a hockey player shaving his stick down a bit more than "allowed" (if thats even a thing)
Between 12.5 and 13.5.ajalves wrote:thought it was supposed to be 13 psi and it was 11psi instead
who said it didnt make a difference?dakshdar wrote:If it didn't make a difference in the game would they bother having a rule against it?ajalves wrote:who cares about 2 lbs PSI.

13 is the official PSI for a football I believe, that's why on ESPN when they did their "demonstration" that in my eyes does nothing for them, used 11 PSI, 13 PSI and 15 PSI. Not sure what they tried to show the public other than getting Jerome Bettis and Mark Brunell to do something in front of a camera.trendon wrote:By the way, 2 PSI below what? Minimum, maximum, or average? ESPN doesn't seem to want to clarify that.ajalves wrote:who cares about 2 lbs PSI.
So I'm confused then. You agree that the NFL has the rule in place because it can make a difference if the balls are underinflated. It's pretty clear that the only way you end up with 11 of 12 balls underinflated is you intentionally do it, therefore you are cheating. So what you're saying you don't care that the team is cheating?ajalves wrote:who said it didnt make a difference?dakshdar wrote:If it didn't make a difference in the game would they bother having a rule against it?ajalves wrote:who cares about 2 lbs PSI.

I am 100% saying I don't care about a team cheating with deflated footballs, yes.dakshdar wrote:So I'm confused then. hey, rocket man......that's exactly what I am saying. They are "cheating" within my acceptable marginsdakshdar wrote:cheating. So what you're saying you don't care that the team is cheating?
Because you don't think it can make any difference in the outcome of the game, or you don't care if you're watching sports where teams aren't playing by the rules in general?shel311 wrote:I am 100% saying I don't care about a team cheating with deflated footballs, yes.dakshdar wrote:So I'm confused then. I wasn't aware there are gray areas in rules that amount to making measurements.ajalves wrote:hey, rocket man......that's exactly what I am saying. They are "cheating" within my acceptable marginsdakshdar wrote:cheating. So what you're saying you don't care that the team is cheating?
That's baffling to me. A pitcher doctors the ball to gain an illegal advantage and you don't care?shel311 wrote:I don't care if they deflated balls like I don't care if a pitcher hides stuff in his hat like that Dude did, like I don't care if a player cheats by claiming he caught a ball that he clearly trapped.
Balls deflating over time wouldn't be an explanation in my opinion. I know the quality is assumed to be the best with an NFL football, but we have used Baden, Wilson and Nike footballs and when they start losing air, it isn't a slight loss, its noticeable. I know it's high school trendon, and you know more than us since you watch tv, but balls that lose air over time are not going to be used in an NFL game because they would be to worn for the QB and receivers to want the ball. I would like to know what the life of an NFL ball is. How often do they switch them out? When does a game ball no longer get submitted as a game ball? Seeit might know more about that than anyone of us.trendon wrote:Here is what happened.
1. Patriots have been inflating footballs to the minimum either on purpose or just because out of habit for years.
2. Referees have been checking balls and saying, "ALL GOOD!" and everyone moves on.
3. Balls deflate over time slightly.
4. Someone noticed in this recent game.
5. Big stink because it is the Patriots and not the Packers, Vikings, or Panthers.
OR
1. Patriots have been inflating footballs to the minimum or right below the minimum on purpose just like Green Bay purposely overinflates them and complies with referee when they say "fix this."
2. Balls deflate over time slightly.

Shel for Commish!!shel311 wrote:No, just like I don't care if the hitter has a little too much pine tar on his bat.
You may not want to watch sports if all of these things outrage you. I'm sure you're not naive enough to think just about all of these teams are doing similar things to gain any advantage they can.
Fine the Patriots $100k today, and let's put this one to bed.
Not as amusing as watching you play blackjackOracleHCR wrote:Watching Shel and AJ playing poker against each other would be amusing.
I already said the Pats should be penalized.cougnix wrote:Shel for Commish!!shel311 wrote:No, just like I don't care if the hitter has a little too much pine tar on his bat.

First rule: Cheating is only wrong if you get caught!!!
