Re: Who Started the NDL?
So how many guys are still in the NDL from the very first season?
Re: Who Started the NDL?
I don't know if we have a count anywhere. Maybe add it to the HOF. I know I am 1.
Re: Who Started the NDL?
I'm thinking 10 or less
Ank (if you just go by played season 1 and still here; took long hiatus)
BigMike
BigRed
BigRy
Dakshdar
Doc
DrTom
DRWebs
FSUPenguin
Hoos (came halfway through season 1 it seems)
Matt90210
Too lazy to keep going through the hall, but that's the first half. There's been a lot of guys who came on board season 2 that are still here as well

Re: Who Started the NDL?
well duh you got there first, but I really appreciated what TFan did for me when i won the NC to leave UT and give them to me when i had a high pick.BFiVL wrote:Foggy always worried the horns off me about Bama. It aint gonna happen. He could have done what VT is doing, take a team in the same conf and try and force me out. He didnt. If he would have stuck around, next season could have been his lucky one. I got lucky, I got bama season 6 I think and until then, they hadnt even had a winning record the first 5 seasons. Done right and have been able to keep em. IF he wanted em, should have gotten here before me.
...i think he was looking for that and when you refused to do that and he realized that it wasn't gonna happen then he went off the deep end. That's not an excuse for him, but it's just what happened

Re: Who Started the NDL?
The core group from the first 3 seasons are here for the most part. Started going down hill season 4 when we let a certain Va Tech coach in.

Re: Who Started the NDL?
When Jeff announced to a small group of us that he'd have to step away, it was Me, Mike, Wes (ssi7698) and Dr. Tom (maybe Hoos too I think) who he told.Uuaww wrote: How was AJ chosen as the successor to Jeff?
Among us we knew we had too good a thing to let NDL die but knew no one of us could carry the NDL at that time. ESPECIALLY since it was just before we had to make the move to ps3. (lol, Mike and I still hate Jeff though for making us do that 1 year too early, then bailing on us and leaving us to go through what was singularly the "hardest" time NDL has gone through and the biggest challenege we ever had)
Anyway, we decided we would split jobs and stuff.
I have a tendancy to post more than the others (except Tom) so I guess I kinda became the figure head if you will and from there kinda evolved to the new "commish"
Tom ran the farm (I still appreciate his efforts and publicly acknowledge his efforst and contribution), but over time, where I wanted to take the NDL (as supported by Mike and Wes since we agreed on stuff 99% of the time) was different in many aspects than how Tom saw it.
This ultimately led to his dissastisfaction and subsequent retirement from Admin stuff.
Again, Tom did do alot of good for the league and I/We thank him.
Anyway, by Season 10, I "officially" took over after 2 seasons of doing it but with Jeff still hoping to come back and remaining the commish though he was unable to be around much.
By Season 12, after 5 seasons, I was honest to god ready to kill about 20 of you. Literally. I'm serious.
Mike then stepped up since he had been involved and really doing most of the grunt work for the previous 3 seasons to commish 13-15.
With graduating from college, he wasnt sure if he could do another 3 seasons (plus he prolly woulda went crazy too), and I knew I needed more time off, we knew we needed someone else.
We had alot of good candidates but AJ was almost a no brainer. He had less NDL time than most others..his 1st full NDL season wasnt until season 9 but he had every skill that someone needs to run this league (uncluding a job that allows him to do NDL shit while at work)

Thankfully he's in Florida so I got him to commit one night when he was drunk and the rest is history.
The league is great now not though because of anything we do but because of the guys and the conf commishes.
#1- we still have some "headache" kinda guys but FAR less than in the past. The "core" group of guys that will never leave NDL barring something MAJOR has prolly risen to the 70-80 guys level.
#2 - conf commishes get shit when they dont do enough articles and stuff (which i have no problem with) but they really do help make running the league tolerable. There are so many small things which cant be listed or sounds trivial but if you as 1 person have to mitigate an argument between 2 grown men 15-16 times each season...it would drive you fucking crazy too.
#3 - again, the guys in the league. by this point I think everyone appreciates NDL, the boards and the game. the differences of opinions which make for interesting board reading everyday and despite the game problems with ea....we still have a fun little hobby and a good thing going.
anyway, I got way off subject and Shel prolly wont read past the 1st 2 sentences and post that gay guy saying "did not read" but for those of you interested...its there.

Re: Who Started the NDL?
I feel the same way but I just have to much stuff going on right now. Hopefully I can make it back through the farm in next years game.Ghost of UCLA wrote:Man I miss this league...still love you guy! ...can't wait to be back one day...
This whole buying a house and trying to get it fixed up sucks now but it will be sweet in the end.

Re: Who Started the NDL?
Yea, I remember playing TONS of lobby games back in the day. (Rix to Cro Thorpe was money
) and then I was invited into the NNBL by some weird dude. Then I recruited Shel into the NNBL.
From the NNBL, Nole realized the greatness of Robert Johnson and the TTech offense and I realized the unfairness of Matt Jones and the option and greatness of overhead cam.
Then I played a couple games in Farm and Shel and I got the call at the same time. Nole, Bud always takes credit but I always said "Nole is my friend". Seemed to work.

Re: Who Started the NDL?
midway thru season 2 for me... my first game i almost took down Packsy when he was undefeated Mizzou in a rivalry game (i took over for kansas)
still one of the best games i've played since i've been in the league, i believe he scored on the last play of the game
and i don't care if Donald Brown himself was in the league, i wouldn't give up UConn for anyone. no shame in wanting your own team and being a selfish prick

Thats right!
Budvol always did try to steal my thunder.
I think he DID get you to NDL and you were on the waitlist already when we started playing/talking
I take credit for getting you in quickly then

I know you guys dont think so but MOST guys will let a team slide if a true fan has their chance at them.
if you announce it on the boards in a nice way, chances are you'll get them.
Now, that being said, you cant bust on the scene saying you're a USC fan while living in Virginia and having a 64th draft pick and expect that to work.

the example i was talking about with peay and jeff would be more because of their situations...not just an "average" case like biffy's or weiser.
btw weiser, who is your team you havent been able to get? I thought cincy was your team?

Re: Who Started the NDL?
it would be fantastic if we all just announced who are favorite teams were and if nobody else was also a fan of that team then you automatically got them (if you wanted them of course).
i know a lot of guys get bored easily and like to move around, but it makes the traditions, records, conference traditions so much sweeter when you're always playing the same guys
i'm not saying we should ACTUALLY do this, but its certainly something that would get into the spirit of "DYNASTY LEAGUE"
