Tubby Smith's whole mindset is to build a tough, hardnosed squad full of overachievers that plays as hard as they can for 40 minutes or more. That's been his MO ever since he was at Tulsa. I personally have twice played against Tubby Smith coached teams and I can tell you they played as hard or harder than anyone we ever played.

Tubby Smith taught ball-line defense. You essentially only play half of the court. It's a decent scheme, but it doesn't require you to play tough nonstop. On offense, it was a LOT of standing around and dribbling.

With Billy G, you play tough NONSTOP man defense (no zone, no ball-line). With Billy G, you shoot well on your FTs or you don't play (Tubby NEVER stressed FTs and it cost us many of his losses). I admired Tubby as a man, and he was a SOLID coach; but it was his recruiting failures that cost him in the end. That's where you nailed it dead on--he always built a squad of OVERACHIEVERS. When you're a program like UK or UNC or UCLA, you're not SUPPOSED to rely on "overachievers"; you're supposed to rely on players like Patterson, Hansbrough, and Love. Tubby continued to chase 7'3" projects (see Shagari Alleyne) and would put together ONE good class every four years or so....to back my point, he recruited three guards in 2002: Rajon Rondo (who never achieved what he has in the pros), Joe Crawford and Ramel Bradley;

the latter two played under both coaches, and they both said that Billy G pushed them harder than any coach ever had.

But you're right, Temple is easily the best perimeter defender in the nation, and has been a stud on D since his freshman year.

Temple is kinda weird. He's a terrible shooter but has a way of rising up in big games and hitting some big 3s, like he did against Florida last week.

Why is that? Cause i get called every name in the book by this guy cause he can not stand the sight of his precious team losing? I still have never personally insulted this guy and he has sent me personal insults via board, PM, and AIM. It really does not bother me. Everyone on here knows he and Feisty are the two biggest homers on Earth. That is fine its the fact they can never quite admit it, that is frustrating. I have had many fine chats with UK, and all he ever does is send me clips over and over of lame ass youtube videos of UK. Its always UK will be fine next week were gonna make a run at it. Never asks about anyone elses team, never cares, its all one way.

It has nothing to do with me being "grown up" it has more to do with me enjoying watching a team lose more than ever because when someone always has an excuse why their team loses, you love to watch the shit storm that will follow. I wrote a simple one sentence comment and it turned into me being called a stoner, making up ficticious stories, and some other lies by a person who is supposedly holier than thou. He gets called about by Shel and Corey etc. all the time but never personally insults them, sounds more like a vendetta to me. Yet at the end of the day I still will enjoy watching UK lose, which is what this thread is all about.

I never said it on the boards, nor did I say I said it on the boards, lol.

But I fully expected it.

And I dont think it was a "homer' thing to do either. Granted, I didnt think he would completely lock him down tot he tune of 2 baskets like he did when he was on him, but I don't get why that is a "pretty big expectation."

I know Jodie Meeks is a great scorer, but Temple has been an absolutely stud on D for 4 years now.

I'm just not sure why you make it seem like that prediction was so farfetched, lol.

i'm unsure of how he locked him down, as you said, when he scored 24 points on 10/22 (45%) shooting, which is a great output for anyone on any given day.

...i sure hope A.J. Abrams gets "locked down" for 45% shooting and 24 points tonight against Baylor
