fastball, changeup and knuckler are super easy tho.
12-6 up to down shape break. 3/4 curve slower starts at the batter breaks in. Sinker just a fastball with sink on it a little slower then a fastball. Spitter looks like a fastball.. but drops quick, slider shape hard break right to left or left to right.,,, screwball right to left break right handed. Left to right break from left handed.

so slider and screwball are opposites. sinker and splitter are fastballs that drop. I assume knuckle curve is a curveball that floats. Thanks!

Not sure if/how much of a difference it makes in OOTP, but in real life, you want at least a few Lefties in your rotation/bullpen.
In real life, it changes the way pitches look to batters.
The easiest example is think of a curveball.
If the batter is batting right handed and the pitcher is right handed, a curveball comes at the batter than comes in over the plate with an arc like this )
If the pitcher was left handed, the pitch goes the opposite way (

So if you have a left handed batter, it is typically easier hitting off a right handed pitcher because the curves do not come at them, but are moving away from them.
It is why I was taught to switch hit from the time I was 5.
So as a batter, you can adjust based on the pitcher that is on the mound.
I think I makes a big difference in OOTP.... stat wise I think more so lefty on lefty.
It absolutely makes a difference..... just look at any players splits. There are guys that can hit both LH and RH really well but they're harder to find. I don't know why I am telling Ted this when he's in my division. Now he's gonna win 120 games when he figures it out and i'll only win 60 cause my team isn't that good.

If it didn't matter, why would both pitchers and batters have different ratings for facing Lefties vs Righties? If it didn't matter, why would the game allow you to specify a pitcher as a specialist that comes in to face a particular handed batter?

My ultra simplistic approach to what actually causes it to matter is this (backed up only by observation and expectation of the physics of things with zero personal experience hitting a baseball):

Left-on-Left or Right-on-Right, the pitch is coming from the side of the plate you're standing on. If your pitcher relies on pitches that move laterally across the plate, the perspective of a pitch coming in and then moving away from you is more difficult to pick up and hit than a pitch starting out and coming in. If your pitcher is less reliant on such pitches and simply works on location and position of the ball (or pitches that move up and down in the strike-zone) then I would expect their ratings or ability relative to either handed-batter to be more similar. If you're watching a game, also think of how a pitcher with a devastating slider or curve ball can really mess with the batter that is the same hand their pitching from - the ball looks like it's going to hit you and instead is a strike.

being a right handed hitter, it was fun facing lefties.

Google it, definitely not gonna try to explain all of that.
I am sure youtube videos can show you visually much better than I can explain.

I agree completely.
Especially against a curve, you don't have that natural reaction to get out of the way since it is coming outside in.

This is why I learned to be a switch hitter.
I have 2 kids on my teeball team, 1 is a right handed batter naturally, but can bat left and the other is a left handed batter naturally, that has never batted right handed and I have already started working with them to be switch hitters.
Will help them out through their little league and high school years.

What I find amazing is when I hear guys like Pete Rose talk about how he could see the stitching on a pitch and know what type of pitch was coming in.
A 90 MPH fastball reaches home plate in a 4/10ths of a second.
This gives the batter 1/4 of a second to identify the pitch, decide to swing and start the process.
So it is amazing to me when I hear him talk about it.

Knuckle Curve is different than a Knuckle Ball.

Knuckle Curve is the grip type with index finger holding the ball like a knuckle and using it to push on release giving it a faster rotation this giving it a sharper break. It doesn't float.

No idea if that is what OOTP recognizes as a knuckle Curve is what I described
