yeah....my main bullet point is that while I enjoy the randomness of '17, having an inkling of a possible sale would have been nice. Might have been able to plan a bit for a possible lower budget

Kind of like a "..rumors about a possible sale...." type thing

My confusion on this is, for like years and years now, I thought we completely took the owner out of the game, so to speak. And all the financials are based solely on the numbers from the previous seasons?

Meaning, I was always under the impression that budgets are set based on the numbers only, having nothing to do with owners.

Is that not correct?

There is actually a setting under Financials for you to basically have the budget of your previous year's total revenue. I'm on the fence whether it's good or not. Owners simulate real life better but knowing that having a good team (and continuing to have a good team) can perpetuate a solid budget for years is nice to rely on.

I don't think it's a good idea at this point. Not sure how teams that royally struggle and bring in 10k fans a game ever get out of the vice of a shit budget. We already have a pretty big separation between the top teams and bottom teams. Boston was supposed to struggle but got a 50 mil budget increase. My revenue last season was 107 mil, budget is 108. Maybe its a coincidence, but I'd like know other teams revenue compared to following years budget before we change anything. Top 3 teams in revenue, Wash AL and WF....top 3 budgets Wash AL and WF. Goes all the way through top 8 teams. PO had 148 revenue, says on website his budget is 150. Where's the issue?

I've tried to have this discussion and asked how budgets are derived 3+ times, but no one ever responds. Woe is me!! But seriously, I've hinted at that all along, that budgets are "only"(probably mostly) tied to revenues. Feels like it should trend more towards net profits after a season, but I feel like it does not do this at all. I can have $100mil in revenues with a nice net profit or $200 mil in revenues and lose a ton of money, and it feels like my next season's budget will fare better with the latter.

I'm not arguing that. Truthfully i wrote the first half of my message before looking up revenue vs budget. It's nearly spot on from top to bottom. Indy had 69 mil revenue, has 70 mil budget. The only differences are at the top. Ted had like 223 mil revenue and i think we should all be happy he doesn't have a 225 mil budget.

if u let owners reward teams for winning, it'll get bornig quick for bad teams. i was in a MLB league where Philly had a 300 million+ budget from winning a few yrs. Imagine 100+ wins for 20ish liek Cincy? his payroll would probably be 500+ million. fun.

This. I thought during Reign's time, he took the owner aspect out of it for the reasons Nick said above, and it was purely based on the numbers, and the $50mil cap.

But it sounds like Corey is saying otherwise, so did that really change?

Not sure if it's in the Financials thread, but yes.

When you finish the season, anything over $50mil in cash is taken out to get you back to $50mil. I believe it came about as some teams could have stockpiles of cash otherwise.

Mine bumped our budget up just a tad last season but then followed that up by saying he wanted me to reach $40M in profit within the next 4 or 5 years. Keeping that in mind, I spent very little in FA only to have him send me a new message after ST. Something along the lines of "Since you're not using the money anyway I'm just going to lower your budget more". Give me a break old man! I'm trying to reach your goals.
