You can't expect a third party to rise up when they are on such an uneven playing field. How can they get their message out there? The Tea Party is a joke and has become the puppet of the RNC. If they really wanted all the BS they spout, Ron Paul would be the nominee. The media is a problem as well, guys like Paul and John Huntsman and Santorum to an extent (until he won) got ignored during he republican debates and all the questions went to mitt, newt, Bachman early on. Now, unless you turn on Fox, anything Romney says or does blows up and is bad for America. Obama lies about the attacks on the embassy and no one gives a shit, and doesn't bother to report it. Meanwhile Rachel Maddow and most other "news" outlets are more concerned about why Romney doesn't understand why plane windows don't roll down, when he was making a poor attempt at a joke. What really sucks is that if you want to find the truth, you have to watch at least 3 or 4 different channels and hear a bunch of bullshit opinions and half-truths and find the actual facts on your own to be able to form an actual opinion of you own.shel311 wrote:IMO, it is by the people. Everything 6ft said is spot on, but it's us Americans as a whole who are the problem, as we keep voting for nothing but one of these 2 parties to hold every important seat in our government.
If Americans as a whole truly wanted change, we would create change. We don't, we just say we do.

Re: Presidential Debate
It's been said time and again in this thread but nothing will change until there's competition for the two main parties. No matter who is elected this time around, very little will change for the good or bad. There's a good portion of Americans who are unaware that there are options outside of the Democrats and Republicans. I'm not supposed to push political agendas when I teach about government but I always stress as much as possible that the founding fathers were against the two party system and that there are other options out there. Limiting ourselves to two parties is limiting out country to two increasingly similar paths.

Re: Presidential Debate
Ugh, this turned into exactly what I didnt want it to! Shocking
I wanted to discuss how Romney smirked so devilishly all night in Obama's direction.
Or how Obama kept staring at the moderator like "save me, blow the whistle...BLOW THE WHISTLE!!"
Or them writing all the time but probably drawing pictures of one another.
That fiasco at the end with the entire families on the stage just seemed to awkward.
And again, Mitt has some amazing hair. I can only hope my hair stays as thick and full of body with just the right touch of product and salt and pepper when Im his age.

Mitt did make Obama look amateurish. What can he say though really? Not like he's has any real successes in four years.

I can see those things showing up in SNL skits.
They show the debate and act like there was overhead cameras showing what they were writing down and having them draw stupid pics of each other.
I look forward to the SNL skits after the presidential debates for sure.

Re: Presidential Debate
i think romney did very well, but i also wonder what his plan truly is. I fear he will get destroyed in one of the future debates if they really grill him about what he's gonna do instead of just saying everything hasn't worked for the past four years and that Barry hasn't kept his promises.mbyrd75 wrote:Thats like saying the republican view Is to scrape money off the back of the working man and neither is accurate. Im an independent myself and honestly have never felt more unrepresented. Not just in this election but local and state as well. Seems the only options are one extreme or the other. At the end of the day the thought that tax breaks for rich creates jobs Is absurd to me. middle class spending creates jobs when you cut for the top it has to be made up. Romney never answered where the money for his cuts will be made up. I have to assume it will be in the traditional republican way.
It's like saying Greg Davis is the worst offensive coordinator in the world and I should have the job, but I don't have a playbook

Re: Presidential Debate
The real issue with the 3rd party candidates is that most are WAY out there. If we had a guy that thought like the average joe, that would be great. The problem is the average joe has to work and support his family so politics are out.

Re: Presidential Debate
i do like to hear private enterprise taking over for the government, though. Capitalism

Re: Presidential Debate
all politicians are criminals.
-- Dems for gov't and corruption/waste
-- Republicans for business.
so if you're looking for the 'right' candidate you're probably wasting your time... they are both schmucks that are going to lie.
the facts are we live in an amazing country that was founded on hard work, freedom, capitalism. one of the candidates is threatening the core of that while the other is just another big business phony.
i choose to support the people who are less likely to fuck up the core of our country (capitalism and freedom) rather than the guys who represents them.

we are just:
a) older and more aware
b) in an information age where we can analyze EVERYTHING to a ridiculous level that we couldn't in the past.
if anything, i'd guess we're far less corrupt now than we were in the past because of transparency and the amount of info thats out there.
our grandparents were having these same debates, conversations 60 years ago.

Re: Presidential Debate
the world works in cycles...autiger730 wrote:FDRishCnasty wrote:Where did it go wrong? Or was it ever right from the wig wearing days?
natural progressions, natural retracements.
sure, some policies make things better/worse and can speed up processes or slow them down but for the most part everything always works in the same cycles over and over and over again because we are human and for as long as we've been human we've always been polluted by human emotions.
we don't have the entreprenurial spirit in our country anymore because we are fat and happy. our grandparents migrated over for a better life, we were given the better life. its natural, it happens to all leading civilizations. someone else is hungrier and they take over.
we think we 'deserve' rights while other countries are fighting (literally) for their lives to get theirs. we use our army and our military to strong arm ourselves to stay on top until hopefully we can get out of the funk... but there is a good chance we might not ever get out of the funk unless we see some serious change in character (which is certainly possible).
but its bullshit to think that some president or policy came in and changed the path of our country... its simply not possible. it might speed it up or slow it down, but this was coming regardless.

Re: Presidential Debate
and for what its worth
i think we're going thru a huge boom in the next decade. we have so many new innovative businesses and transformations from old to new taking place that its going to put us into another enormous economic cycle.
we've been in about a 12 year sideways pattern in the economy/market fighting off 2 huge bubbles (internet/housing) after a huge run from the 70's which is completely normal. unless the core principles of capitalism are changed and the countries foundations get fucked with, we're in the process of coming out of that and starting another huge run, imo.

Re: Presidential Debate
as bad as times are now....... can you imagine living even in 1930? 1800's, 1500's where if you went against the church you were killed. Women being called witches, burned to death and if you died you died a nice christian, but if you survived come back to be killed for being a witch. Shit, women didnt have rights til 1972 or something. The only difference now is, you cant hide it with the technology we have.
People feel its more corrupt, but it always has and always will be. and that goes for every country.
My buddy backpacked in europe a couple years back, in his time he met some germans who spoke of a neo nazi regime uprising in the political systems of east germany. its just an endless cycle. History repeats itself over and over again.

In general, I abhor all politics because of the lack of logic involved.
