Re: DISCONNECT!!!!
The fact that it is certain games and not all games is pretty strange. I'm curious if there is a difference in ports that should be opened. No idea where to start looking though.

It's no wonder my controller is still working after all these years with all the hot routes.

Re: DISCONNECT!!!!
3 things I would try....shel311 wrote:I'm not saying if I'm doing both at the same time.ajalves wrote:far as OOTP, i would guess there is no way you should be downloading while on the PS3. I could see that causing a drop
I just mean, if my connection is prone to drop every 15 minutes or so(not PS3, just in general), then it certainly would have happened at some point when doing an OOTP update, but that's never happened. My updates go off without a hitch.
1. Move the modem/router to another location in the house. Try a few different spots. Just to test if it may be a problem with the line you are connected too. (this will test the lines inside your house)
2. Take your PS3 to Corey or Dave's house. Let them play on it for a weekend to see if they have any issues. (this will test to see if you have an issue with the PS3)
3. Tell Roadrunner that you need a new modem/router as it is not working. (this will test your router/modem)
This is the only way you are going to be able to isolate the problem. If neither of the three are the problem, then you probably have an issue with the provider or the lines leading to your house. The only way to resolve is to find another internet provider.

I was under the impression that if you DMZ, you don't need to open ports though, correct?ReignOnU wrote:The fact that it is certain games and not all games is pretty strange. I'm curious if there is a difference in ports that should be opened. No idea where to start looking though.
I wish I hadn't traded in FIFA, I don't think I tried it since I got the new modem/router, but I'm not positive. I'm wondering if it'd work now where I can't play any of the 3 games I own online at all(assuming with the 1 DC I cant play NCAA13).

You're right, just saw you did the DMZ and that didn't work. I'm stumped on this one.

New trick... disconnect and hide your computer, call out your technician and tell him all that you use the internet for is playing your PS3 and the thing won't get online! Then hold him hostage until he endlessly swaps out hardware to make it work!

1. I can try that. I'm gonna have to write down all the stuff I need to try here, good info lol.brwnbear wrote:1. Move the modem/router to another location in the house. Try a few different spots. 2. Dave lives like 4 hours away, and Corey never plays any PS3 games any more, so I don't think that is an option. That being said, I did borrow an extra PS3 Corey has and had hte same issue, so it's the same basic test, so it appears it wasn't the PS3 since it happened on both.
3. I'll probably try going grab a new modem/combo, can't hurt to try it once more, a 3rd time.
Which would put me screwed since I've searched and searched, even had Nolie help me I think, and no one else offers high speed internet to my address.brwnbear wrote:If neither of the three are the problem, then you probably have an issue with the provider or the lines leading to your house. Re: DISCONNECT!!!!
Are you wireless as well with your computer? I was getting great connection with my computer when it was plugged in to the router but if I was wireless I was having speed problems and connection issues if I was in another room. Is your modem a Ubee or a motorola? I have a Ubee and from what I've seen on the internet it's wireless is junk.shel311 wrote:See, my speeds in that test, I assume those are solid, right? Like I said, I have no speed issues and no internet drop issues at all on my computer. It's just the PS3.Shiftdnb wrote:I have a modem/router as well from time warner but the router in it sucks. I was having all kinds of connection problems and the speed was not anywhere near where they advertised. I had to basically trick it into being just a modem and use a separate router putting the timewarner one into bridge mode. I have the Ubee modem/router but there is a motorola one out there as well. If you google bridging and your router you should find a link explaining it as a lot of people are having issues with the routers.shel311 wrote: 3. If the answer is no, then you have a router issue. It could be a load issue. Try playing without a single other item using the router. Try playing the PS3 on wireless and wired. Tried both wired/router. Even upgraded to the best internet my provider has, Roadrunner Lightning. I have this all in one box that I guess acts as my modem, router, and even a home phone line hooks up to it. It looks pretty lol.
Was that speedtest what you got from your ps3?
The speedtest was from my computer. Haven't done it in a while, but I believe the speed tests on my PS3 were around 10-15 download and maybe 1-3 upload, which I think is good enough for gaming. I'll try it again when I get home today.
Re: DISCONNECT!!!!
That would explain why only one provider offers internet. Maybe you should try dial-up. I think I have a unused earthlink CD i can send you.ajalves wrote:no one is!!!brwnbear wrote:To be fair, not exactly sure of Shel's location.ajalves wrote:yeah, drive your PS3 5 hours to Dave's. We're breaking out all the options.ReignOnU wrote:New trick... disconnect and hide your computer, call out your technician and tell him all that you use the internet for is playing your PS3 and the thing won't get online! Then hold him hostage until he endlessly swaps out hardware to make it work!
Another weird thing about the issue is, it happened during the 1st 2 seasons of NCAA 12 if you remember, I didn't play those 2 seasons. But then, it worked just fine as I was in the final season, maybe had 1 disconnect. BOught NBA2K, played 12 or so ranked games no problem, maybe 1 disconnect. Then all of a sudden, I never finished another game of 2K. And since then, I haven't played much but haven't had any success, not once.

Yea, everything is wireless.Shiftdnb wrote:Are you wireless as well with your computer? But I've had no speed issues at all wireless. Hell, I have no lag at all in any of my games, fwiw.
Don't know what brand my Modem is, I'll have to check when I get home.

Re: DISCONNECT!!!!
Actually, I think that tells us that it's not a PS3 issue at all. It's something in our setup or the line. Did you set the PS3 to have a static IP? Is your wireless secured? (someone leeching?) Do you have anything around the PS3 that could be causing an interference issue?

Wireless is password protected.
Don't think anything is causing an interference. Any examples of what could possibly?

Anything using electronic waves. Telephone, cell phones, microwave, other wireless computers... stuff like that.
Static IP means that every time the PS3 is online, it is set to the same IP address by the router. It doesn't change to any available IP anytime it is power on.

I think in that post about the DMZ instructions, it does the static IP, so I think I did that.ReignOnU wrote:Anything using electronic waves. Telephone, cell phones, microwave, other wireless computers... stuff like that.

As for my modem, yea, it's basically set about 30 feet from my PS3, and sorta goes pass my kitchen to get there, so there could be interference, definitely.
I think I'll try moving the modem before going get a new one.

How funny would it be if shel has an affinity for hot pockets and likes to fire one up at the start of every game... only to find out that his desire for the lava filled crust has ruined his last year of gaming? Now that's a cool story bro!

Re: DISCONNECT!!!!
I was going to go there Shift, once we need to, but baby steps to try and resolve this.
I have a modem from ATT Uverse that has the router built in it, they do something that passes the IP to my own router.
I forget what it is called now, but different than just turning off DHCP in the router settings.
And we can do that on Shel's depending on what make/model it is.
Shel, what is the make and model of your modem/router? When you get home, post that so I can see it and google it to see the settings and everything.
You won't be able to try what I posted earlier if it is an all in one device.
But we can explore turning off DHCP and using a separate router. If you have one or you can borrow one from a friend/neighbor to try.
Or go by a cheaper Linksys router. Can always return it once we are done testing things.
But get me the make and model number and let's go from there.
