SEC football is in its prime right now, unlike back then, and I don't think you guys realize the person that Mike Leach is.

He's a great coach where expectations are low, but i'm not convinced he can be a prolific head coach in the SEC where football is king.

All of you are acting like you know without a doubt he'd be the G.O.A.T. so look in the mirror when you're calling me hard-headed.

Seriously you guys are hilarious

Yes, the SEC was crap back then, nothing compared to now.

1997: five teams finished in the top 13 in the polls, Tennessee was a national title contender going into the bowl games.

1998: four teams finished ranked (and ironically all four of them handed UK their only four losses), including the NATIONAL CHAMPION Tennessee Volunteers. Guess who tied with Tennessee that season for the most points scored in the league? ;) Leach's offense also hung 35 on a Florida defense that allowed a 130 points their other 11 games COMBINED.

Oh by the way, saying Uk is a "shit program" only FURTHERS the argument against you; he made it work at a "shit program" in the SEC, imagine if he were at a good one! Don't you just hate it when facts get in the way of an opinion-based argument? ;)

I'm sick of people thinking the Big 12 (or any other 2-3 power conferences) don't even compare to the SEC. Yea the SEC is on a great run, no doubt about it. It's cyclical though and there is no way it'll last. Florida has finally seen some hard times...(do I even have to mention Georgia and Tennessee??), and it's inevitable Alabama will as well. Outside of Florida/LSU/Alabama...there hasn't been a consistent power. Sure teams like Auburn, Arkansas, etc have good seasons, but the SEC isn't light years ahead of Big 12, Big 10, or Pac 10.

I've said it once and i'll say it again....when teams like Kentucky knock off SC, people talk about how AWESOME the depth of the SEC is. But if Colorado knocked off Oklahoma, everyone would say OU just sucks and the Big 12 is overrated. It's all horseshit. The SEC has its flaws like every other conference.

there are 5 ELITE teams each year then its groups of 40 (6-45, 46-86, 87-115) until the bottom 5 who are usually much worse then the previous group.

all the 'this conference is better then that conference' stuff is silly.

usually one elite team ALWAYS comes from SEC which is why they are above others but top to bottom its not as spread out as people think, imo.

Plus, unlike the days before the internet and Twitter, kids are now going to other schools besides the "powers". You see it in college hoops too. Kids don't just have a few schools to pick from if they want to be on TV or get recognition, they can now go almost anywhere. Parity reigns outside of the 10-15 schools that get the PREMIER 100 kids, year in and year out.

Doesn't the SEC usually have the best OOC record just about every year(if not actually every year) as well?

I'm not saying they're light years better(like Hallday and Lee LOL), but it sure seems like they've proved to be the best conference every year for quite a few years now.

Yes, cause the other major conferences(minus the PAC 10 who only play 3 OOC games) don't play I-AA schools about as often as the SEC. LOL.

How can you say that? It worked in the Big 12. People said the same stuff when Meyer came to the SEC, that his spread option offense would get eaten alive, and look what happened there.

1. there is nothing ironic about that. Coincidence? yes. Irony? no.

2. Did jsence just inadvertently admit that kentucky isn't worth a fuck? Now that's ironic.
