Re: Biggest Rivalry In Football - Now
It will be a biased discussion like Dub said and the reasons behind it.
To me the FSU-Miami one is easily my favorite and the biggest in my eyes because of growing up with it and the history behind it all.
The rivalry that is my favorite that doesnt include my team is the OSU-UM one,no matter the records as the reasons I stated before.
Dont think Bama-UF is a rivalry but awesome games lately. UF-LSU I personally dont think is a rivalry either due to it not having the long standing tradition of a rivalry but may be totally wrong on my history lesson.

LSU-UF doesn't happen every year either so i would think it's gotta be an annual meeting to be a legitimate rivalry

Re: Biggest Rivalry In Football - Now
LSU-UF does happen every year.
Im pretty sure of that.
I mean they have had awesome games but I dont think 5 years of good games constitutes a rivalry in my opinion. I think they have played forever but until recent if you werent a fan of either it was never a real "BIG" rivalry.

I believe Florida doesn't rotate off of LSU's schedule, like Tennessee doesn't rotate off ours.
Iron Bowl for the win.....And Doley, "Hate" is a understatement

Re: Biggest Rivalry In Football - Now
Its more of an old school rivalry but USC Notre Dame is fun to be around......Notre Dame travels well and its always a cold night game in So Cal. Looking forward to hammering the Irish yet again this season.

well that's news to me.
When was UF-LSU a big enough rivalry to make it so they don't revolve?

Re: Biggest Rivalry In Football - Now
I was under the impression we were talking about the Biggest Rivalry Now, meaning current day, not what have been great ones in the past. So I am looking at this as the teams need to have been playing recently, and have upcoming matchups that look to be huge and intense as well. With those guidelines UF/Bama tops my list far and away, now if we are talking about longer picture of history then this conversation is just crazy as there are just too many amazing rivalries to really.

lmao and you called us rediculous earlier.
How the fuck can 2 teams that don't play every year be the best rivalry? They don't even fucking "rival" each other.

This from the same guy that said it's OSU-UM and if you don't agree you're just blind.cdub21 wrote:this is a dumb discussion to begin with, its not something that can be decided or guaged in anyway other than opinion, which in 99% of the cases is biased. Biggest rivalry isnt the 2 best teams that play each other, its alot more than that. its about the fans and players emotions. there are plenty of them and the only way you can possibly choose 1 is if you are involved in it. mich-osu and mich-msu get me pumped up and excited, and lately pissed so i can say those are the biggest. but to someone in florida, texas, cali, wherever they dont know about it like we do, and we dont know about your rivalries like you do.
LOL.

But the entire point of this thread is basically who has had the best rivalry in the past 6 years.Cnasty wrote:LSU-UF does happen every year.

Re: Biggest Rivalry In Football - Now
i've been to UM-FSU in person twice. let me say this, if thats the biggest rivalry game in the country then we have a poor showing of rivalries in college football. unless miami is winning, they literally don't have a local fan base. the fsu-miami game i went to wasn't nearly sold out. it was packed, but not sold out. i would think barring a terrorist attack, the biggest rivalry game should always be sold out.

simma champ.....its like it was stated. its all based on what you grew up with.Dolemitesooner wrote:what have they played...3 times and 6 years.

That said in my opinion...... the OU - Tex game has got to be top 2 if not the top BECAUSE it does happen every year and has for over 100 years. The national tittle implications make it great. The fact they are intra-division rivals make it great and its importance to the Texas State Fair is a plus. Its not just a game its a 2 state war.
In addition, equally as big, for most of those same reasons the Mich vs Ohio State game is interchangeable. Without the history then the NOW factor doesnt mean as much there isnt the hatred that built up on decades of memories, etc.
So all of you quit ya bitchin and get cha' popcorn ready. Its goign to be a fun year of college football.

Since 2004:Dolemitesooner wrote:Explain to me why UF- LSU is better than that?
- Better talent on the field
- Better, more exciting and close games
- More meaningful games, considering 4 of the past 6 winners of that game have won the BCS title, which also proves my better talent on the field point.
- You said being on a neutral field as a pro, but I think that is a HUGE con. Not being able to play such a huge rivalry in each team's stadium each year, I HATE that. I couldn't fathom LSU playing an SEC team every single year and never playing them at home. LSU-UF NOT being played at Tiger Stadium and in The Swamp would really take away from that rivlary, not add to it.
But we don't split the fans at midfield, so we can't compete with the RRSO.

Re: Biggest Rivalry In Football - Now
Right but I still wouldnt put LSU-UF at "rivalry" status besides fans of those teams.shel311 wrote:But the entire point of this thread is basically who has had the best rivalry in the past 6 years.
Poll the average to die hard college football fan and I dont think UF-LSU would be in the top 3 of a "rivalry" type poll.
Not hating at all but if we are talking about the point of this thread and with a college fan base outside of just the NDL, I dont think its one of the top ones.
If we are talking among NDL coaches and all that stuff, maybe?
And Riccio since when do rivalries matter by how many people are in the stands?
Ill be the first to laugh at the Miami fan base as it gives us true fans a horrible name but bringing in fans into the stadium in the discussion of a rivalry is a little off. I can see maybe why for another view but I dont think it matters.
But hey, Im always wrong so whatever.

Re: Biggest Rivalry In Football - Now
But I think when the question is what rivalry is best over a short period of time, that speaks about just that time span obviously. So some 100+ year rivalry doesn't mean anything.
And I think that rivalries that aren't otherwise thought of as huge rivalries should be counted since it's only a 6 year sample. I just take it as what 2 teams have played the best games, ie best rivarly, in the past 6 years.
If the question was simply best rivalry in college football, obviously LSU-UF wouldn't even be mentioned and there would only be 3 obviously answers, IMO.

Re: Biggest Rivalry In Football - Now
I hear ya but PERSONALLY I dont think a rivlary can be such a short period of time.
Thats just me. Maybe there is another word for it?
Battle?
Matchups??
Rivalry to me is always like an old word like UM-OSU,Harvard-Yale,Duke-UNC,Boston-New York.
Maybe it will grow into a rivalry but its just been awesome games lately.
I mean are we really breaking it down this much?? Nick asked the question. Shame on me.
