What if, since it was not expected, Eli fumbles and Tampa picks it up? Not likely, but more likely if they're not expecting it.
I still haven't seen the hit, but if it's like AJ says where guys were going into the center's knees, yea that's dirty.
But I think unwritten are dumb, just my opinion. If the NYG Oline is just standing there while Eli takes a few steps back and doesn't kneel right away, I have zero issue with a lineman legally and in a clean way flying through the line and hitting Manning. I'm sure most will disagree, no biggie.
I see both sides of the argument but it is still dickheadish. Like a team down 28 and calling time outs with under a minute to go. They are showing mercy. Take it.
Obviously I agree to that it's definitely dickheadish to some extent.
That being said, I'm not faulting Schiano or think he was soooo wrong there.. He's simply saying screw your unwritten rules, I have a game to try and win. I"m all for that.

Didn't watch the game, but Welker had 11 targets to Edelman's 6, so what am I missing here?
It's early, but Welker averaged almost 8 catches a game last year and he has 8 catches this year.
And, he wasn't even in the game until Hernandez got hurt this week.
I dont' know if it is Bellechik trying to prove a point to Welker about why they wouldn't give him a contract and instead only franchised him, but he isn't a "starter" for them, but he's probaly a top 3 WR in the league. It is a weird situtation.

Don't agree at all. I've seen teams fumble the exchange in a kneel down and the defense Gave up so they couldn't recover it. Tb was down one score i could see if they were down multiple but one crazier things have happened than a fumbled snap.

Tampa bay fans may applaud this as playing to the end but I am sure when they are getting thumped and people are still running plays and trying to score they will bitch. It's a double edge sword. With the exception of those damned dirty saints, this game likes to pretend to be about sportsmanship and respect.

I bet Coughlin preaches playing to the whistle and never quitting and going all out until the game is over.
That's what Tampa did. It's only "dirty" because the Giants weren't going all out, that's not tampa's fault.
What NFL team has ever preached going "all out" on a kneel down? Plus, it was the method of the "bull rush" being diving at the offensive line's legs. NFL players, in general, tend to be very unhappy when people hit them at or below the knee because that can be the end of their career and the end of the non-guaranteed contract. It is essentially a chop block, which is illegal if the offensive player does it (and should be if the defensive player does, if it isn't already).
