Can't go back and read every post here.DRiccio21 wrote:shift, the top 1% of american's makes 350k per year. its a fact... i don't know what else to tell you. the data comes directly from the IRS.
i keep calling you a socialist because your ideals are socialistic, again i'm not intended to degrate you or make you feel bad or less american... you want socialism based on what you're telling everyone and the stuff you say. i giggle when you say things like 'we need to take care of the less fortunate' because by saying that you are pretty much saying that wealthy people don't care about less fortunate people and people who make less money are morally better people... thats ignorant, factually incorrect, and just naive.
i am calling you out on the stuff you're saying because when i counter with facts or with examples, you just change the subject or claim ignorance. and without a basic knowledge of tax code (which you have claimed you don't really get), and i'm talking tax 101 type stuff, how can you just sit there and keep saying 'TAX RICH PEOPLE!!'. you aren't even sure what you want taxed. you are saying you want wealth taxed now? you do realize that accumulated wealth comes from TAXED money already. income is 350k for the top 1% and as brwnbear pointed out numerous times, those people pay far more than anyone else.
so you either want to just raise taxes on people cause they are successful or you want to double tax people cause they have more than you... those are socialist ideals. again, i mean no harm, just calling a spade a spade.
and you continue to miss the point that since we live in a globalized world now, much more so than in any other comparable era... by not being competitive or on top of business friendly regulations, we'll lose more successful people and businesses to countries that are willing to give them better opportunities. so even if we did what you wanted and it made sense (which it doesnt) we're going to lose the poeple/new businesses we need to get back on top.
Not sure how to look it all up, but I'd be curious if people in these very high income brackets are still elligible for deductions. I think that screws things over more than anything else. If you're making a million a year, you really don't need that deduction for having a kid or for a charitable donation you made to your local soup kitchen. I would hope the deductions go away as you go up in the income brackets. Hell, I can't even claim the interest on my students loans because the government says I make too much, so I sure hope they don't let the millionaire down the street claim their 6 year old brat. Hell, I think in a way it is bogus that we give money back to people just because they have kids. That is basically the government paying people to reproduce, which seems silly in many ways.
But anyway, I'm more socialist than most, so I would have no problem seeing them simply keep scaling the rates up as you increase income. I see no reason why someone making a million a year should pay the same as someone making $100k a year, percentage wise. I'm not saying it needs to be a perfect scale, but you can talk small percentage increases on the millionaires paying out to generate significant funding to support job creation and welfare programs that can lead to lower unemployment, homelessness, and crime rates.

- A MFJ family with $100,000 of income will be in the marginal tax rate of 25% (17.5% effective without any exemptions or deductions)dakshdar wrote: Can't go back and read every post here.

- A MFJ family with $1,000,000 of income will be in the marginal tax rate of 35% (31.98% effective without any exemptions or deductions)
- Starting in 2013, anyone making more than $250,000 will have a 4.9% increase in their taxes.
- Under the current tax rules (which expire in 2013) there are no phaseouts for exemptions or deductions. In 2013, anyone making over $377,700 will not be able to deduct anything.
- Anyone making over $110,000 does not get any type of credits (except for adoption for which a partial credit exist up to $185,000).
- Cash gifts can be deducted up to a maximum of 50% (30% if not a 501c charity) of your AGI. Carry over rules apply.
You say you shouldnt get paid to reproduce, others say you should get paid to take on debt.
The stimulus costed $787 Billion. According to the gov. website it created/saved 400,024 jobs. Each job costs cost taxpayers $1,967,381. Not sure the government is very efficient at creating jobs. http://www.recovery.gov/Pages/default.aspx
Many welfare programs are funded by charitable donations. If we raise taxes, the revenue will go to pay off our national debt, not to welfare. If you want to efficiently reduce welfare you need to encourage more charitable contributions.

I'm an idiot when it comes to this conversation but I'll pass on what I heard on the radio this morning.
Of the top 1%, 11% of those currently work in Congress/Senate.

Hmm...
That'd mean that basically 1 in 10 people in America that make over $350K is a Congressman/Senator.

Re: Occupy Wall Street
how many of the congressmen are independently wealthy? I think a fair amount of that, but i fucking hate every one of them I don't know personally so good riddance when we vote them out of office.
I remember they did the "regular season doesn't count" thing the last year of minors when I was 12 because some of the parents were too competitive. That was the worst fucking thing ever, I remember being so mad and thinking why do we even bother to play.
If this Occupy movement succeeds, why will we even bother to work? It's all stupid and I hope they occupy themselves off a bridge
