Re: MMA / UFC - Official Thread
I just happened to catch this one live last night, while I was working on some school stuff...
It seems like he genuinely wanted to return to the UFC but he also realized that the physical pounding and time commitment for training is too much at this point in his life. I also didn't realize that he has 2 young (<4) kids with Rena. I think it was a great interview overall and was finally a glimpse at a different side of Brock.

man i thought it was one of the most awkward interviews i had heard in ages.
it sounded like he got a huge offer from vince that he didn't have to really do a lot for and in return he had to give up UFC. he obviously isn't a good speaker, but to me it sounded like they were coaching him on what to say and he got nervous and just couldn't get the words to come out so he started spewing out nonsense (some that didn't make sense) and some he probably wasn't supposed to be saying

I think that's part of why it felt genuine... because he couldn't get the "company lines" out.

Just her first fight, I believe in Thailand, is all I've seen. She was an international competitor in karate and I think judo. At one point, she got into bodybuilding, which lead to a stint with modeling. Then she ended up back in MMA. She is on the 4/11 Fight Night card, taking on another young newcomer, Izabela Badurek. Badurek is 5-2 with all 5 wins via submission. It's an interesting fight for both of them, as they appear to be complete opposites in the cage.

I don't think I've ever seen Brock do an interview that was 100% rehearsed or meant to hype/promote something. I think he took this interview as promotion for Wrestlemania, but it didn't come off as a massive Wrestlemania hype train. He definitely tried to push it a little in the interview, but I felt like that there was a side of him that came through, which I haven't seen before.
He's almost 38, so even if he did come back to the UFC, I'm not sure he'd have much of a window. Where as with the WWE, he could be on a limited scheduled for at least 5 more years.

Couple of things she will need to work on before taking it to the next level. Every time she threw the leg kick her left hand dropped to her waist, leaving her open to the counter right or overhand right. And her arm bar technique obviously needs work. She threw it up 3 times, all of them looking as if her initial position was there to take her opponents arm home with her, and not landing it once.

i think the side you saw as authentic i saw as him being a little confused/disoriented/awkward and just tried to stay 'on script' but he's not talented enough to wing it when he goes off track.
either way he doesn't belong back in UFC so he made the right choice, imo

Judges never cease to amaze me in this sport. Masvidal got screwed worse than I have seen in a while.

he can only blame himself really. He put it in cruise control too soon. I thought the second round could have gone either way. I think Iaquinta got the decision solely based on volume of strikes.autiger730 wrote:Judges never cease to amaze me in this sport. Masvidal got screwed worse than I have seen in a while.

Masvidal threw more and landed more in all three rounds.

I believe George is spot on. Masvidal has no one to blame but himself, frankly I agree with punishing a fighter for coasting.

Re: MMA / UFC - Official Thread
I went back and watched the fights again.
That women's fight still made me laugh. Looked like a schoolyard YouTube fight.
The ref in the Mendes fight let that go on far too long. That guy took a lot of big and unnecessary shots.
There is absolutely no way Masvidal lost that fight. I don't know what you guys are considering coasting. He wasn't running from Iaquinta. Masvidal stood right in front of him and counter punched the fuck out of him. If swinging wildly, missing, and getting tagged with combos and flying knees wins fights, I need to start tomorrow.

I think Masvidal won as well, but the decision didn't really shock me. MMA judges have a long way to go to become consistent. Some pay little or not attention to metrics, it's all about the eye test. Then they have a variance in what they find important, aggressiveness, controlling the fight, takedowns, punch quantity, damage done... so there really needs to be a set system.

Re: MMA / UFC - Official Thread
Just watched UFC Fight Night 64. WOW, I've seen better street fights from 5 year olds. 90% of this card was hot garbage. A few takeaways though:
Aleksandra Albu: She looked extremely strong for that weight. She had good power even in her jabs
Another Russian 115'er Maryna Moroz surprised most (9-1 underdog) with her armbar win over Joanne Calderwood. Then said she wanted to fight the champ next. Loved her straight forward approach on who she wants to fight.
Yaotzin Meza looked pretty good. One thing I was impressed with is how he used his wrestling to keep the match in his corner and how well he listened to Benson Henderson bark out orders.
Mirko Cro Cop absolutely destroyed Gonzaga in the 3rd round. Gonzaga easily won the first two rounds and then Cro Cop caught Gonzaga with a powerful elbow in the clinch that sent Nepal looking for his legs. Cro Cop ended it with vicious elbows from the top
I'd like to see Albu and Moroz fight each other after their wins.
The 115lbs girls rankings should be thrown out. The girls they brought in from Invicta should not be in the top 10 from what I have seen so far. I would say nobody should have a belt in that division until after a years worth of fights to truly figure out who are the top competitors. This belt could easily change hands for the next 6 title matches. (although I think Joanna Jedrzejczyk is obviously the best striker in the division and can possibly defend it until she fights someone with a well rounded game)
UFC makes so much money but we got these ass clowns for commentators. But what was even worst than Dan Hardy and John Gooden calling the fights was the guys they had translating the corners and post fight speeches (I hope those idiots weren't getting paid).

Re: MMA / UFC - Official Thread
And I think Alexo Grasso can be the answer here in this weight division. She would be a huge draw with the Mexican fan base. I haven't seen if she has been added to the Mexico card yet but I hope the UFC brings her in.
And I know this was a Fight Night on ufcfightpass.com but there is no reason whatsoever that a 3-1 fighter should be on the main card. UFC needs to go to having one main UFC fight every two months and a fight night once a month (3 fight cards every 2 months). The UFC 186 card is a joke with Bisping and Dollaway as the co-main event. Even with Mighty Mouse Johnson possibly being the best all around UFC fighter he has a horrible track record of not being able to bring in fans. They should keep him on either Fight Night/Fox cards or possibly as the last fight on an undercard, it might help bring in more buys if people see him fight for free on FS1 and are intrigued as to why a champion is fighting on an undercard. That's another weight division that is garbage, either that or he is THAT great where he makes it look absolutely like childs play.
