Wasn't Jake Mathews talked about as being a #1 or #2 pick before the season started? Is there a reason he has dropped out of the top 5? I don't watch aTm football so wasn't sure if he was injured this year or not.

It's probably just due to the fact that guys like Mack, Bortles, Robinson, and others have risen so much.

I am kind of pulling for the Browns to grab WR Cody Latimer. He's a local (to me) guy, so it would just be cool to see him playing there.

Philly signs former Army Ranger. Can't remember his name but played WR for the Black Knights but will play DL for the Eagles.

He's a physical specimen but may have to work on the technical aspects of being an NFL WR.

I'm assuming his basketball game translates pretty well for him? I never got to see him play football, but I did catch him playing basketball on their state team (with A. Payne). It was pretty unfair how good that team was, considering the small school division that they played in.

He goes up and gets it. When he gets his hands on the ball it's going to be his. He made some pretty incredible catches in the last couple years where he was leaping over or reaching around a defender. I hate to see him go because I think he and the IU offense would have been incredible this coming year. But he's obviously made a good choice.

I don't want us to take Manziel, because I do not think his talent will translate into NFL talent.
However, I do agree with you on the fact that if he does go down, it will not be from a lack of effort.
And as you stated, if he wins, it will be the next LeBron level of love.

With our #4 pick, if Clowney is there, by some odd chance, you have to take him.
But I do like WR Sammy Watkins, I also like OT Greg Robinson, OLB Khalil Mack, OT Jake Matthews, and WR Mike Evans.
With our #26 pick, I would love it if QB Teddy Bridgewater fell that far and we took him there.

I would never be upset with us taking offensive linemen. It all starts with the offensive line.
They protect your QB to have time to make his reads and throws and they open holes for your running game. They are the biggest key to a great offense, IMO.

And as Shel stated, Manziel does make us more reputable, as far as people wanting to watch, on a national level.

Am I the only one that thinks Clowney will be a bust? I don't think he will be a bust due to his physical attributes but due to him being lazy. I remember catching part of a Gamecocks game last season and there was an iteresting stat, wish I could find it, where they were talking that offenses had more yards per play when he was on the field than off the field. And that rushing attacks towards his side of the line averaged more yards per play than on the other side. Like I said, I wish I could find this and I am just going off the top of my head.

The best comparisons that I've seen, not necessarily in terms of gameplay, but just in general are Lavar Arrington and Julius Peppers. I've heard Gholston's name tossed around too, but I don't think he's anything like Gholston. I think his production / potential is a pretty good match for the first 2.

I can somewhat take that argument. Suh was double and triple teamed all the time too and still lead the team in tackles, sacks, tackles for loss...2 years in a row I believe. And Clowneys is supposed to be the faster version of Suh (different positions I know) according to a scouting report.

Not saying it's wrong... but I'm also not sure that is a very fair comparison. A tackle in a running conference, where most of the rushing is between the tackles versus an end in a passing conference or one that is loaded with faster spread teams. Of course he also dominated the TFL/Sk stats in 2012, while everyone knows what happened in 2013.

As for the comparisons, that can get kind of skewed as well, based on the situations that he's on the field for. Again, I have no idea, but if he was getting pulled off of the field on 3rd and short and was consistently on the field on 3rd and long, then I could guarantee all of those numbers wouldn't be favorable. Maybe an SEC honk can chime in on it.

Interesting.

About half way through the season. I heard some advanced metrics stuff where when he was in the game. They ran away from him like 75% of the time or something.

Then, on passes, teams got rid of the ball a full half second quicker when he was in the game. So quick, that the QB release when he's in the game was quicker than any NFL QB release.

Those things kinda made sense as to how much of a game changer he was without putting up big numbers.

Think I'm more confused now after reading this story.
