read this story, its almost lock Sam's wont get drafted now. The NFL mindset is about 30 years behind. Great read though.

I was just following Reign's devils advocate of it improving his draft stock :)
I wanna disagree and laugh at how terrilbe that point is...but Jacksonville does kind of fit the bill here.
Disagree if you'd like... but it only takes 1 that sees some positive spotlight.

From everything I've gathered, he's a late round prospect at best right now. So even if a team drafts him in the 3rd/4th, that's likely higher than where he should be.

mayock has him 3-5 so being taken in the 3rd or 4th is exactly where he should be

I'm assuming your talking about Vick and not Nick Foles...point understood though.

He will get drafted, the NFL can't afford to allow him to go undrafted...

4th rounders are arguably around the same skill level for the most part at the time of the draft. Like it or not , at the beginning this will be somewhat of a circus for the team that takes him. If its between him and an almost identical guy, maybe it isnt worth the headache

nick is making it sound like he should be the 1st overall pick and teams are simply cutting their noses off to spite their face

LeBatard's been saying this exact thing since the story broke.

Teams hate anything that could be considered a distraction in their eyes.

AJ stop putting words in my mouth. Where did I ever say hes the 1st overall pick? I said MIKE MAYOCK, the dude who scouts and knows more about football than you said hes a 3-5. I dont care where he goes, he was SEC defensive player of the year. the sec is the best conference in college football. he was the best defensive player in the best conference in college football ! .. and he's gay. cool. theres black people who date white, do we care? omg interracial wahh. who cares. like who cares if 2 guys fuck. are you jealous hes not fucking you? if not then who gives a shit

Shows you how backwards society is when this is news. its 2014 people, wake up.

the knock on Sams is his height. Dumervil is 6 foot and doing well. Dwight Freeney was only 6'1 and he did well. Its so dumb. Talent >>>

Before his announcement, Sam had already emerged as a divisive prospect. Some look at his SEC-best 11.5 sacks and 19 tackles for loss and see a high-motor pass rusher who could go as high as the third round. Others see Sam, who is 6-foot-2 and 260 pounds, as an undersized defensive end without a true position in the NFL. Of his 11.5 sacks, nine came in three games against what one scout called “garbage competition” — Vanderbilt, Arkansas State and Florida. “His numbers are inflated,” a scout said. “You’ve got to see through that.”

Same reason Derrick Rose won MVP over Lebron, lots of sports writers aren't exactly diving into the numbers.

There’s a concept in NBA circles known as “voter fatigue,” in which – on occasion – it’s theorized that the most deserving candidate for the league’s MVP award will fail to bring home the hardware if they’ve already won the award several times in close proximity. Essentially, because the voters become tired of voting for them, developing a mentality of “Well, it’s Player X’s turn this year.”

This concept has really only ever applied to two players – Michael Jordan and LeBron James, both players so transcendently great that voters actually seemed to feel they needed to share the spotlight, or at least some are inclined to believe. Often pointed to are Karl Malone’s trophy in 1996 (after Jordan’s fourth MVP win the year before) and Derrick Rose’s in 2010 (after consecutive wins by James), both seasons in which a large contingent of people believe the wrong guy came out on top.

So you think every voter, or most voters knew that 9 of his 11.5 sacks came against 3 inferior teams? Is that what you're saying?

i'll go ahead and preemptively disagree with that.

He wasn't even the best player in Missouri's front 7.

Let the combine play out and some analysis get wrapped up on his game tape. 3rd - 4th round right now looks like a reach.
