We are just trying to keep the boards alive until the playoffs start.

I know someone will chime in with the argument that the coaches bring in so much money for the schools and all that, but to me the fact that a college coach is now making $8 million a year is ridiculous.

Amateurism!!!!

Hey kids, don't take that extra box of Froot Loops, but we'll give coaches $50mil.

At Michigan none the less!

Miami should have hosted some of those parties they talk about in the U movies to get Harbaugh and rid us of this white devil named Golden!!!

2 guys at work are huge U fans, and they seem to like Golden but seem to hate his DC (I think it is?). Is the prevailing thought in Cane world that it's Golden? or his staff? or what? I'm trying to care a bit more about the teams down here now that I"m down here, but I'm admittedly behind on the other Miami

It is an extended problem of D'Onofrio being Al's buddy and not canning his ass last year.

He seems like a nice fella but he is not a "Miami" coach and the Canes are strapped because the moronic extension they gave him.

Lots of good teams in Texas to root for during this demise!

Hahaha. Let me ask you this... If you had a blank check, and no rules on who you could or couldn't hire... who is the shortlist of "Miami" coaches out there? Who would you want? Is there such a guy any more? Butch is available... ;)

i'm fine with it.

nobody is being lied to or swindled here.

Jim Calhoun was probably paid between 20-40 mil over his time at UConn (just guessing and don't feel like looking). He brought a basketball program from a joke in the northeast to a national power. with that the school went from being an average agricultural school to one of the top public universities in the country and enrollment increased tremendously. over that time the state granted UConn about 4 billion dollars in funding to refurbish the campus, to update the classrooms, to make everything top notch... none of that comes without Calhoun, nor does a football program (save your jokes) That degree i have has value because of Jim Calhoun, whether people want to admit that or not. He did things for a school that nobody else could do. Heck, UConn didnt even exist, it was just University of Connecticut before him. All the marketing and gear with the name UConn alone is worth an insane amount.

Anyways, he is an extreme example cause of what he did and when he did it but it happens all the time on different scales. I'm sure Alabama sees spikes in enrollment/donations over the past 5 years (guessing) as Miami did after their glory days in football... What was Calhoun worth a year? 5 mil? 20 mil? 60 mil?

we also need to stop thinking with our own pockets when analyzing finances. fathoming 8 mil dollars per year isn't something most can do so they make extreme and irrational comments about it which are usually ignorant.

Oh wait, for the record I have zero issue with Harbaugh getting $50mil specifically.

If they are paying it, then he is worth so much more than it. It is extremely rare when an athlete or coach is not worth the money given to him.

I think Shady Pete would be perfect for you. What makes Patterson, "Miami"? He's obviously a good coach, but I assume you're adding some swag/personality factor to just good coaches to make a miami coach?

I have always been on the Patterson bandwagon and what he has done at TCU is amazing.

TCU is comparable to Miami in both small, private universities but he would have access to better recruiting lanes.

Miami is in a weird spot where its a nationally recognized program with great history but not the mega bucks like the Michigans,Texas, and Nebraskas to throw a huge contract at a coach. Especially with them offering a ridiculously stupid extension to Golden to lock him up through 2020 with what he has done as Randy Shannon Jr.
