can we do something about player options? Cause Orange County just offers 2 on the end of all his contracts + some of these contracts are LOLable. What a joke, and this guy cries when I sign a UFA who gets released by an incompetent gm.
also, we need better contracts. I'm out here offering 15/16/17 type yrs and OCD routinely gets away with 10/15/17 or the best, his relievers making 2/2/2/1 and then a 5 mil PO..
so stupid and unrealistic. no MLBPA would allow these but we do

Juan Cintron - 2 Player options
Jose Morales - 5/10 - 2 PO (12/12)
Trevor Harris - 2 player options
Julian Rivera - 2 player options
Jose Ramirez - 2/2.5/1.5/ 5 mil PO
Alfredo Rivera - 2 POs
Manuel Carias - 2 POs
Ambrose Bishop - 2 POs
8 players with 2 player options which is just manipulating the FA system. Every FA goes into the offseason wanting like 20 mil, so these POs get declined, the player thinks hes making say 4/30 but really Web is getting 2/15 (for example Morales) and he'll decline the PO and miss out on 24 mil.. yaaa..
this is so fucking lame.

To be fair, I think Morales was asking me for two player options on his contract when I was in extension negotiations with him. And not all players decline them, certainly not ones in positions that don't dictate salaries higher than those in the option years.

All signings are within the rules of what we have in place from what I see.

Right, but Nick asked if we could do something about that, though not sure what we could do without placing more, stricter rules which we're usually against.
I will say though, Nick does have a point as Dub has complained about me as well being unrealistic with my finances(within the rules), and he's not exactly being realistic either, so I think it's that coupled with the contracts in the game(not just these) are sometimes screwy but not sure that'll ever be avoidable by the game or by rules we can realistically make.

Eh, since it's a slow post day...
One could make an argument that it violates #3.
"Player Contracts:
#1 - Contracts are allowed to have 2 option years per contract
#2 - Every option year(team/vesting) must include a buyout of at least 25% of that year's salary
#3 - Max Dollars allowed on option years = No more than 25% of the average yearly salary of all guaranteed years"

** Wasted beat me to it, but further expounding on it**
How is this part of the option rules interpreted again?
- Max Dollars allowed on option years = No more than 25% of the average yearly salary of all guaranteed years
I always guessed it was meant to say that option years can't be more than 25% "greater" than the average yearly salary of all guaranteed years -- and that the "greater" part was left out (as it doesn't read like a complete thought/rule without it in my mind).
Does the rule also only apply to team options and not vesting or player options?
If it applies to all, a contract that is 5 - 10 - 12 (PO) - 12 (PO) would violate the rule as the average yearly salary guaranteed is 7.5 while the option year is 60% higher.
It is unclear if this part of the options rule was meant to combat this and if we're missing/not applying it correctly.
