I basically go out there and shank the place up. My friend is ok but he shanks a lot too.

Supposedly there is a scratch golfer on our team and we have a legitimate shot at winning this thing.

Not due to my assistance of course.
if you're playing with decent players and cool guys it doesnt matter at all.

I'm not the best scorer in golf, but I can crank it off the tee. so when we play a best ball, I hit 3rd off the tee. Strategy being, 1st guy off the tee should be your straightest driver. He gets one out there decent distance and safe. everyone else swings from the heels.

I usually putt 1st also....i'm good at showing the other 3 guys (much better putters) the line.

Good strategy.

Should be fun. I hope to ride the coat tails of the scratch golfer guy to some free stuff.

I'm jealous with this golf talk. I'm hoping to get out one last time this year, not sure the weather will cooperate though. My last 2 rounds were very good so I should probably just quit for the year and keep good thoughts over the winter.

Exactly... my team normally kills our scramble every year on our group golf trip because we have a good blend. Our group has 3 very good all around golfers, which are on each of the 3 teams. Then everyone else is in the same general area of overall suckiness, with each having their own strengths. Our foursome consists of 1 person that can drill drives down the center at a high rate, 1 that can't get off a tee box straight to save his life, a decent player with some power and then our good player. The 1 guy that can't get off the tee box, is by far the best putter in our group, exceeding our best player... dude must have putt-putt mats all of his house.

I almost declined out of embarrassing my team and friend but it was fully paid, its a really nice event with great features and awesome free food and drinks.

Not to mention a day off with this awesome weather and giving it a whirl.

May hit the range. I am hit or miss driving, not too bad with the irons, terrible at chipping, horrid at putting.
Go to the range.

Shorten your swing a little on drives (practice it at the range) and you'll most likely find that you only give up a little distance but you probably hit more consistently. Consider hitting 3-wood off the tee if you're much better with it, especially if the hole is under 360 yards (a reasonable 3-wood of 220 would leave you an 8 iron, which is fine, no real need for a 275 yard drive on a hole like that). You never know if your team will just end up using an ok drive from the fairway, and the 3-wood is more forgiving.

Chipping, form a "y" with your arms and the club and don't break it during the back swing (so don't hinge your wrists). Play the ball forward of center in your stance and keep 75% of your weight on your left foot (assuming you're right handed) throughout the swing (don't transfer weight to the back foot). It isn't the best way to chip, but it will minimize really bad chips. And don't decelerate during the downswing, you still want to swing through the ball, don't chop it.

Putting, it's like playing pool but on grass. Physics, geometry, all simple stuff. Work on having a consistent speed to the putter head and if you practice on the putting green at the course before you start, get an feel for how far you hit the putt when you bring the putter head back only to your right foot. It should be consistent on the greens on the course and you can at least try to judge distance properly if reading the green isn't your strong suit.

These are not tips for becoming a good golfer, just tips to avoid sucking horribly on short notice.

I am going to print that out and attach it to my free Tommy Bahama golf shirt.

Great stuff Joe.

Don't ruin the value of your shirt like that. You don't want the Ebay buyer to send it back due to defects.

... btw... I hate Tommy Bahama. Our company has a vendor agreement with them and I believe it's the absolute worst style of the lines that we carry. Carry on.

$90 is on the cheap side of their line. Enjoy your obnoxious Hawaiian-Bowling shirt.

Actually got a nice outer wear type pullover which was a nice bonus.

Teeing off at 1130!

Best score is par
Best ball

We have a 15 year old on our team, he is applying to PGA school programs for college, and shot an 83 at bay Hill yesterday.

We have a shot here!!!

;)
lol, I was gonna quote that part too and say thats pretty accurate

side note: If you dont grab 6's instead of a 9 on 130 yard par 3's...I'd even say slightly better than not too bad

that ball SAILED over the green......honestly, I think it was still climbing at that point

Had one of those moments again today.

Was about 210 out, took the 5 wood, cranked it about 250 over the green. Got lucky and caught one.

Had a hell of a time.

Only lost 3 balls all day which was amazing in its own right, drived wonderfully meaning I was in the fairway or fringe every drive, and putted 2 birdies for our team that were 8-10 foot range.

The 15 year old Ricky Fowler in our 4some made me step my game up.

We finished with a 66 with the best score is par scoring system.

When we left that was good for about 5th as the lowest was sitting at 56 when we left.

Picked up a new putter today that I have been eyeing for some time, looking for the right price on ebay and finally found it. I did not pay $350. Can't wait to try it out at Pinehurst in a month!!

I cannot wait to get back out on the range and play, I barely even touched my clubs last year.
