Well, Richard Todd doesn't have a 10 year contract at $3mil a year, so..yes.

We're certainly better than we used to be but nowhere near realistic, to be fair.

I acknowledged that in my post.

Also, we had this discussion back in the day when Ted signed Rags for like $5mil for 10 years and we discussed Evan Longoria and other MLB guys taking the guaranteed money and not the arb money and future.

I think it still has opportunity for improvements and it also has changed a lot for the better as I am trying to extend Munoz long term and he isn't having it only accepting 1 year deals right now. Much better than what it was but how do you fix something in a game where its dependent upon a person in a decision like that?

I am unsure if we will ever see a fix unless we put a manual fix that says guys cannot sign for XXX if they have performed XXX and totally opposed to that.

I agree with that, not calling you out at all. Just stating a very big reason why Boston will continue to be able to run away with the league and you don't have to worry about who gets paid and who has to walk. Bryan, Hoffman, and Todd should easily account for close to 80-90 mil of a yearly expense budget, instead they are going to account for about 15%. If those guys got the 20-30 they deserve, some moves and decisions might have to be made. Like I said, everyone tries to exploit it but it would be nice if that wasn't a possibility

No I know you aren't and this has been a debated issue for many versions over the years.

I am always open to suggestions and winter meeting topics to fix it but we have seen small improvements version to version and now we will see how '18 handles it.

Again, unless we want to get into the business of manually making a rule that certain guys can't sign for certain amounts we will always have some issues imo.

I know we have also talked in the past about a Trade Committee that would also review contracts and decide what seems realistic and fair but that is very subjective and i was never a fan of it.

I am not in front of game but you are paying Todd more than he would have gotten in arb for those 3 years and he took a smaller deal for 2-3 years after and honestly that is not that uncommon in real life. Todd and Bry will both hit FA in 20s still and get their giant payday. The game definitely does not handle all these deals great but what Boston did with his studs or even the deal Oliver got is not far from real life situations really

But I think the only real life comparisons for Todd are Trout and Harper, who are getting wayyyyyy more than $15mil and still hitting free agency earlier than Todd, I think?

Again, it's better, way better. But still not quite where it should be realistically speaking.

Don't worry...the negotiations in 18 get much better and more expensive.

It has gotten much better.
Isn't Boston living proof it hasn't really improved...? I think OOTP production vs demand curve is WAY off. I'm not sure what other factors there should be, but guys putting up 7 8 9 11 WAR seasons are certainly worth more than under 10 mil per
There is a setting for what the base demands are per player group. That should be something we look into if we really think its an issue.

This has been set for a long time and also something I look at annually in the financial rollover to ensure we aren't straying far from what we want it to be.

I think we are fine with where it is set as if we go any higher the ridiculous demands we get now and everyone waiting for the drops in spring training will get even worse.

Yes this needs to be a main topic IMO unless it is taken care of already.

Just had someone sign a guy for 51 mil per year for 4-5 years. No way I could compete with that in this league

A heart breaker. Greeks up 2-0 then 3-2 but couldn't finish them off. A couple bad starts by Moreno and Aviles being lousy all post season was too much to overcome

but you just don't have the heart. Sheltown is borderline soulless... that is a lot for any team to overcome.

Will you pull any exports before you start the rollover?
