Amazon Readying 30 Minute Drone Delivery for 2015
Re: Amazon Readying 30 Minute Drone Delivery for 2015
When they reported on this on the news, they stated you would have to live within 10 miles of one of their distribution centers to be eligible for the Air Prime delivery. So most, if not all, of us are out of luck.

I would be. But that's what concerns me--we have a major airport here (the international UPS hub is located at LIA) and you're talking about a lot of congested airspace. Something goes wrong over a metro with over a million people, you're looking at a substantial issue.

I'm guessing Amazon and the FAA would have those kinks worked out before this was allowed to be put in use.jsence2 wrote:dakshdar wrote:When they reported on this on the news, they stated you would have to live within 10 miles of one of their distribution centers to be eligible for the Air Prime delivery. Did you see it? They would only be flying about, what 100 ft above ground level or so? I sure as hell don't want my UPS planes flying at that level...

If all goes well, they'll be 100 ft above ground.
My other concern is, when it lands.....sure, you can TELL kids not to get near the thing with spinning rotor blades....but what about dogs? cats? kids who don't listen and are curious?

We run ours at 4am when the dog is sleeping in another room. We only let it run on the main living areas, we still manually vacuum the bedrooms.

Ours freaks out about anything motorized. This is a 90 pound dog and he jumped about 5 feet into the air when we turned on an electric leaf blower right behind him one day. No leg bend or anything, just straight up on all four legs

Our little Jack Russel isn't afraid of our manual vacuum. She tries to bite it and growls at it.
She does this with the rake in the yard as I rake leaves also.
Animals are funny sometimes.

I love my Roomba. However, the thing couldn't be stranger. It knows where the big messes are, puts itself back, plays a tune to let me know what is wrong, but has an extremely interesting way to navigate a room. I've seen the motherfucker go straight, do four figure eights before going straight again.DRiccio21 wrote:ever use a Roomba?cougnix wrote:I will laugh at the required attention to detail in navigating the evergreens and power lines in my neighborhood...shel311 wrote:That's something I hadn't thought of initially, the shipping costs will probably be outrageous. Are you quoting Shakespeare or something here?The_Niddler wrote:They are know to not know they are little dogs.Cnasty wrote:Same with our dachshunds but they think they are german shepherds.The_Niddler wrote:Our little Jack Russel isn't afraid of our manual vacuum. Anyway, my dog starts growling and barking the second anyone even puts a hand on the vacuum. She'll bite it when I'm vacuuming. It's only a matter of time before she loses a tooth. I'll probably vacuum that up too.
