A few things:
- Please don't use this as a baseline for anything regarding COVID. It's 20 tests. That's a ridiculously small sample size.
- Regarding mutations, that's not new information and it's not uncommon in viruses. In most cases, mutations are a non-issue.
- The one concern I have with mutations (it's talked about somewhat in a linked article with in the posted article), is that the body can have multiple mutations of the virus. From a health standpoint, I really have no idea how that works. But I recall reading that increased exposure and accumulate a buildup of the virus, making it more severe. So if you can have multiple mutations, that seems like it could be an area for big problems. (all speculation there on my part, no idea how it works)

Did not see it was only 20 tests. No reason to even write the article with that headline because of that sample size

I think the job numbers are going to go up quite a bit in the next month. Starting this week you have to apply for jobs to retain unemployment status, at least in Nebraska you do. This doesn't help contractors/small business owners/self employed as we are not looking for new jobs, just a stopgap until business picks back up. I'll have to call to see if doing demos and reaching out to potential customers to see if that would work. If that doesn't work to retain unemployment status then I see a lot of people dropping off the unemployment lists.

Move this to the random discussion thread ASAP for follow up as most of us don’t visit this mess often.

Thanks

MSNBC just reported that FL had 246 hospitalizations of 18 and under on the 20th (4 deaths).

CDC reported 543 total hospitalizations for the whole country. Damn, 18 and below in just Florida accounted for almost half of all admitted in the hospital that day? Either Florida needs to get their shit together or we have another fake report from MSNBC.

An additional 500 million doses could be acquired by the Department of Health and Human Services should the vaccine prove safe and effective.

Don't get in the way of a good 1 sided story from Nick or the other guys. How dare you.

Did read that they would need double doses for everyone to eradicate this, 16B doses

Maybe my math is off. But 100 million plus 500 million would get pretty close to double dosing the whole country right? I'm no math wizard like Coug so beats me

Just giving you a hard time coug, don't yell at me

Meanwhile... I'm on a COVID conference w/our CEO and CMO (Chief Medical Officer) right now.

Here's the punchline:
More cases (due to more contact; more testing); Many younger cases; Far less serious conditions, would have expected them to be much worse; Far less % hospitalized; Hospitals performing much more effectively with treatment regimens.

Some other key notes that they've really focused on. Apologies if some of this is common knowledge from the last few weeks, I've been a bit detached. Also if I misspell some of this stuff. Trying to get the notes down as we go through it. This has been a great conference so far.

*Very large concern for Brazil, India, & Philipines
*Droplets over 10 microns cause most infections; Range dies of drastically at 6'. This is why masks work.
*Aerosol, much smaller, can travel much further and suspend longer (lighter). They don't necessarily believe it carries enough to infect, even at close range. But they haven't found a way to scientifically test it and they don't believe they'll be able to any time soon.
*In terms of masks, if you're in serious need to protect yourself, it needs to be N95.
*Declining death rate due to 3 very specific drugs/treatments... Dexamethosane (Decadron) (like cortisone, limits inflammatory response) has been very helpful. Do NOT take preventative. Bad reaction w/diabetes. Studies after death showed that people were frequently dying due to inflammation. Remdesivir has statistically proven to reduce death by over 35%. The issue is drug availability. Convalescent plasma, which is being used as an antibody boost. 61k patients are "resting" and they hope to utilize. The faster they get the plasma, they better.
*3 Current vaccines are showing great antibody production and even better, they are showing t-cell immunity, which means longer term solution.
*Half life appears to be about 73 days. In simple terms, the time of deterioration of antibodies.

Huge internal push to get kids back in school.

They currently estimate that 20m out of 55m kids were getting free food in school. 1 out of 5 cases of child abuse are reported by teachers. Also estimate that the average child will fall 1 full year behind in Math, due to missing the last 3 months of school.

Do NOT put masks on kids under 5. Teachers should have clear, plastic face shields.
