We can take the pass attempts in the offensive system that Johnson gets vs Rice and that'll probably cancel that out.ReignOnU wrote:Rice benefited greatly from the weapons around him.
Without looking, I"m guessing Stafford has 200 attempts are so more per season than Montana, and CJ also probably gets a heck of a lot more targets, just based on that assumption. Could be wrong, but it seems logical.

Montana and Young averaged about 430... Stafford has only started 52 games for Det since he's been there. Just over 3 seasons (net). Johnson was fortunate enough to have elite QBs like Dan Orlovsky, while Stafford wasn't available.

We can go on and on. The fact is their numbers are comparable, but Rice played at that level for a long time. Barry played at a higher level than Emmitt every one of those 10 years he played. Gonna be that guy and pull this card...to be honest, i'm not even sure how the above sentences in this paragraph are even up for debate.ReignOnU wrote:shel311 wrote:We can take the pass attempts in the offensive system that Johnson gets vs Rice and that'll probably cancel that out.ReignOnU wrote:Rice benefited greatly from the weapons around him.

Re: NFL Thread
ALso, Stafford threw almost 1400 passes the last 2 seasons, which is 3 seasons worth at 430 per, so that's an entire extra season right there to negate an Orlovsky year.
Plus he's on a pace for another 676 this year, a half season more than 430 per.

You're still focused on the analogy... which was just to prove my point that accumulative stats don't make a player the 'best.' Your comment was that Johnson needed some stats to make it arguable... and you just stated they are comparable, only Rice did it for longer.shel311 wrote:We can go on and on. Congrats to Rice on putting up great numbers for a long time, but CJ is the best WR ever.

You're still focused on the "accumulative" despite me completely explaining that whole "accumulative" notion of yours and how your assumption was incorrect.ReignOnU wrote:You're still focused on the analogy... which was just to prove my point that accumulative stats don't make a player the 'best
Well no shit. IF 2 guys produce at a similar level but one does so for 2 years and the other for 22 years, which player had the better career? I have no clue what you're even talking about at this point.ReignOnU wrote:' Your comment was that Johnson needed some stats to make it arguable... and you just stated they are comparable, only Rice did it for longer.
You're usually a numbers type guy, good debater, it's a bit shocking that you can't back this statement up with anything relevant.ReignOnU wrote:but CJ is the best WR ever.

Because it's not a statistical debate... that's the point. You simply said he needed numbers... which I gave you. Your argument is numbers. My argument is bad ass mofo... the best WR ever.

Are you talking about WR over 3 years? Or 20? or 10? or 5...cause a guy could easily say Randy Moss was the greatest ever? in his prime..he put up numbers nobody else will most likely...what about Steve Largent...stud muffin.
Lets just ask Dez Byrant who is the best, he is modest.

Why are we all of a sudden forgetting about Rice? Just silly.
He definitely had a nice YPC, but what did Moss do in his prime that CJ or rice didn't do? Hell even Moss's TD record isn't as impressive as Rice's 22 TD's in a 12 game season.
