I always hear about transfers, do soccer players have contracts like in US sports, where after, say, they fulfill a 4 year contract they become a free agent to go to any league they wish?

for eh players yea, for great players its rare a team doesnt get something for them. You get a contract (say 1m/yr) but Transfering is like trading/free agent in 1. The team trades money for the player, and in the process usually gives the player a new contract. If the player doesnt wanna go he doesnt have too. Very rarely will a say Ronaldo make it to free transfer (free agency) cause no team wants him to go for free.

Like example, it was kind of a "big deal" last year a player, Lewandowski, left Dortmund for Bayern (germany rivals) on a free transfer (basically a free agent) because the player was leaving regardless.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... -move.html

in most cases they would of gotten like min 10M upwards to 45-50 for him, but got squat.

on the topic of soccer, Ive been playing Football Manager alot recently. Building up a solid squad at Real Sociedad, battling the 2 big boys. Barcelona and Real are ridiculous in their signings. Javier Hernandez went to Barcelona for a steep price. My best player is Julian Brandt tho.

Interesting. So I assume it's fairly standard if a player has a 4 year deal, does it just get extended at some point if he and the club both want to continue on together?

I wanna try this out but I know zero about soccer strategy and feel like it would be even more time consuming than OOTP if you have to be scouting a million other leagues on your own to try and find guys.

Zusi and Besler both signed long term deals with Sporting KC today. Besler had been rumored to potentially going oversees. Zusi is just lucky to be riding the WC wave towards some cash

Zusi was very underwhelming in the World Cup. He looked outmatched when he had to do something other than deliver free kicks and corners.

Yea there were way more "wtf are you doing zusi" moments than there were good ones.

Every corner save for the Brooks one was either way too deep or way to short

Finally official. $108 mil (which I'm guessing is around that 80 mil euro number). Monaco just made their decade $$ wise

Watching Liverpool-Roma right now. Some of the bowl games look bad when they play in a baseball stadium but soccer looks completely alien in Fenway. I can't imagine that temporary sod on the infield is very smooth. It's only a matter of time until someone tries to stop quickly on that and pulls a big chunk up.
