It isn't a "gunshow loophole". It was a specific exemption made as a compromise (you know, that word the antis like to toss around, but apparently only as a rouse?) to pass more gun control. There is zero way to enforce mandatory private background checks, but many of these representatives he shat on for not passing that legislation have been proposing opening up the NICS for private sellers this entire time. Democrats have refused this completely reasonable compromise.
No, they didn't repeal legislation to allow mentally ill people to buy guns. That is incredibly vague and misleading. (If this is what he's referring to) They repealed shitty, useless legislation that barred senior citizens receiving social security from purchasing guns if someone else handles their finances. Yeah, all those senior citizens shooting up places all the time. We must strip them of their constitutional right to self determination if they're bad at managing their money in their old age!
The "no fly, no buy" proposal...how the fuck is anyone still supporting this?! There is ZERO due process involved. And no, giving someone the opportunity to appeal AFTER they've had their constitutional rights stripped is not acceptable. Innocent until proven guilty. Senator Ted Kennedy wrongly ended up on the no fly list, for fucks sake. It is not a tool that should be used to strip citizens of constitutional rights.
