I think lolcats are underused on these boards.

I have like 10-15 I have SAVED on my home pc that I always forget to use in appropriate situations on the boards.

Kudos to you Vt for breaking one out.

For the most part, the create a school completely bores me.

But if we can use that to all start our ODs, i guess it'd be kinda cool.

In years past the types of teams you could create were really limited. For example every "Run N Gun" team had the exact same players. I'm assuming they would fix that this year as they mentioned tons of possibilities, but still I'd rather go with the teams in the game.

April 23, 2009 - Ever since NCAA Football first made its way onto next-gen consoles, it has been without a hugely popular feature that debuted back in 2000 on the PlayStation. For the last three years (the first iteration of NCAA on Xbox 360) people have been waiting for the re-launch of Create-a-School. Thankfully that wait is now over.

This week in New York City EA Sports revealed TeamBuilder, a reworked Create-a-School feature that incorporates new technology and mechanics to bring your created squad into NCAA Football 10. Cooler still is the fact that fans of the collegiate videogame series will be able to create their dream program well before the game hits store shelves.

This time around Create-a-School (TeamBuilder) is all web-based and operated from your PC. Pigskin fanatics can hop onto TeamBuilder.com, (once the site is live) sign in with their EA Sports ID, and then get down to the nitty gritty of designing the look and attributes for their school. EA Sports was kind enough to create IGN University (average GPA 1.1) to give us a look at just how deep the creation goes.

There are hundreds of pieces to every uniform and many can be tuned to your liking. From the stripes on your pants to whether your logo appears on the helmet or your uniform number (ala Alabama), there's a lot of depth there. There are more than 70 base styles for your uni and 11 different logo placements aside from the helmet designs that I just mentioned. There's less customizability to the pants, but it's a similar mechanic. As fun as it is to fiddle with the look of your uniforms, what really impressed me was the freedom afforded to nailing down a team logo.

The IGN field EA Sports created for us.

First you'll need to track down a primary logo which must be a 256x256 PNG file. Next, you'll need to convert that image (or find another) into a 128x128 PNG. Keep in mind, there really aren't any restrictions on what that image contains. That means you can take an already-established logo, massacre it in any number of ways in PhotoShop, then upload it to TeamBuilder. EA Sports thankfully used the traditional IGN logo and color scheme for ours. Picking your colors is a simple process that has you place three markers on your logo to ensure that you aren't using fuchsia when you really just wanted pink (and who doesn't).

Next you'll pick from any of the pre-existing college, generic or high school stadiums to act as your battleground. Thankfully the fans in your stadium will be wearing your team's colors. For IGN University that meant a sea of intimidating red. Be afraid.

After picking out your stadium, it's time to design the field itself. You can pick from four field types: turf, blue (Boise State style), grass, and multi. Then you can place your logo in the middle of the field and at opposing 20, 25, 30 or 35 yard lines. As if that wasn't enough, you can then design the text that will appear in both endzones.

From there you're off to design the attributes and player rosters for your school. This is the one area that worried me about TeamBuilder. Since you can upload your created team to Dynasty or Online Dynasty modes, the fact that there's nothing stopping gamers from maxing out both their school's attributes as well as the players' skills seems like it could create an unfair advantage. All the usual school attributes are tunable. That means you can mess your school's academic prestige, your fan base, television exposure, even the amount of athletic facilities on-campus. Unsurprisingly, IGN had none.

That's me handing off to Mike Pereira.

Once it's time to customize your rosters you'll first need to select a school's already established roster and tweak from there. Again, all the usual speed, strength, and awareness attributes can be maxed out if you like.

After you've set your created school in virtual stone it's time to take to the field. You can create and save up to twelve schools that can then be downloaded by your friends over Xbox Live or PlayStation Network. It's important to note that if you decide to take your team into a dynasty mode (online or off), you'll need to replace one of the schools from the conference you're inserting the team into.

It's about time EA Sports made a Create-a-School mode worthy of this generation of hardware. The online integration and the interaction between your PC and 360 or PS3 should be great if everything goes to plan. It's also a wise move to offer up TeamBuilder to players before the game ships so you can have your custom squad fully built in time for launch.

Check back on Monday for our preview of Season Showdown, yet another new mode in NCAA Football 10.

more on Team Builder
One of the most requested features by the NCAA Football community has been Create-a-School. In NCAA Football 10, this feature returns virtually reborn as ‘TeamBuilder.’

With TeamBuilder, gamers have more options than they could have hoped for – especially when compared to Create-a-School from the PS2/X-Box versions of NCAA Football.

The TeamBuilder process begins with a web-site that allows users to create and modify their team. The site will go live weeks before the game is released on July 14, giving gamers ample time to create their teams and surf for teams made by other users that they wish to download when the game is available. As of April 23, the TeamBuilder website was still a work-in-progress and only 75-80% complete, according to an IGN interview with designer Russell Kiniry.

On the site, there are 10 areas (or sections) for gamers to enter in & modify their team info. These areas include:

Create Your Own School – City, team name, prestige, coach name, team colors. This is the bare minimum category that needs to be completed in order to create a school.

Logo – Primary & secondary logo. FBS & selected FCS logos are already available to pick. Can also upload your own primary & secondary logos which can be placed on helmets, uniforms, & field. On this screen, you can alter your team colors to match those of your uploaded logo(s). (Select & point at any spot on the logo and use that primary, secondary, or tertiary colors.)

Your Stadium – Pick from all of the School, Bowl, & Generic stadiums in the game and they can be renamed.

Your Field – Gamers can pick type of field (grass, turf, multi, blue turf), endzone color(s), & on-field logos (size & placement, if any). End zone text & font also gets entered on this screen.

Your Team Uniform - Can create home, away & home/away alternates.

Helmet – Select facemask color, stripe(s), style, fleck, logo (left and/or right, if any), helmet numbers, etc. Primary or secondary logos can be placed on helmet.

Jersey – Style (70* types), logos (with many placement spots), fonts, collar, cuff. Can edit number trim as well.

Pants – Styles (45*)

Socks & Shoes – White or black.

Program Info – Edit team info & factors here.

Mascots – Can pick from existing in-game mascots.

Your School Roster – Can start with existing roster of any school or pick one of eight generic rosters (Air It Out, Balanced, etc.).

With TeamBuilder, there are almost an infinite amount of possibilities – gamers can create their high school team, an FCS school, or resurrect a defunct football program like Pacific or Wichita State.

Users can keep their team ‘as is’ and only edit uniforms to throwbacks or utilize their own design. Online Dynasties can now allow gamers to use their favorite team and edit them down to a lowly one-star program with a poor roster and begin a rebuilding process. Diehard fans of their team can keep their team ‘as-is’ and simply update their teams roster online throughout the season and share it with people around the country, or create a Classic Team roster with throwback uniforms. Basically, as little or as much about each team can be edited. You can make an entirely new team or simply make updates to an existing one.
DJohnson306 (9:54:00 AM): Any time a game allows user created content, there is a concern over the possibility of graphic or inappropriate content being made and shared. All teams shared publicly will be monitored. If a gamer wants to create a risqué team, they can set it to ‘private’ or ‘share only with friends’ to avoid the team being removed.

Teams created with TeamBuilder can be used in Online Dynasties, but not in basic online games. With the new Custom Conferences feature, teams can be placed and realigned anywhere. Unfortunately, due to some technical issues created teams cannot be subbed in for the generic FCS teams in-game.

Out of the box, gamers can use/download 12 created teams, however they can create an infinite amount of teams online which is where they will ‘live’ and be available for download. It is possible to insert created teams for all 120 slots, but information has not been made public on that yet. To find teams, players can browse through their created teams, a list of the most recently added teams, and also a basic search capability (by author, name, location, etc).
DJohnson306 (9:54:01 AM): To help make the in-game experience with a created team more authentic, Brad Nessler came in and recorded over 2,400 team names.

X-Box 360 users: Silver account users will be able to search for and download schools onto their console and will also be able to sign up for Season Showdown and compete for their schools in games vs. the CPU and the two web apps.

* - Number taken from NCAA Football 10 Community Event. May not be accurate as of April 27.

http://www.operationsports.com/BlyGilmo ... pressions/

This is some dude's take on the game.

He has some interesting tidbits I haven't heard about before:

On the defensive side of the ball, you now have the ability to key in on certain types of plays before the snap. You have four options –- pass, run left, run right or run middle.

According to EA, it is all about risk and reward. Effectively read your opponent's play and you have a chance to blow it up or stop it cold. But if you guess wrong, you are exposing yourself to trouble.
Sounds good, but it'll probably be overdone, like when we use the commit feature this year and cornerbacks in man coverage bite on the run. OVERDONE!!!
The defense this year can also "spotlight" certain players before the snap. This allows you to pay extra attention to the spotlighted player, which should give you a better chance of shutting him down. However, you also risk leaving other players unattended.
Same as above, but this could be very effective if done properly.
NCAA also includes a new "game plan" feature. Essentially, you are able to tweak certain settings, and each setting has a positive and negative associated with it.

For instance, you might choose to have your defense focus on intercepting passes instead of covering the receiver. This means you might intercept more passes, but there is also a better chance that your defense will get burned down the field on a double move or miss an interception and give up a big play.
QB accuracy has been adjusted to make it a bit harder to complete passes.
This COULD be the best part of the new game, but will end of being the worst. QB Accuracy was TERRIBLE last year. The only bad passes were horribly thrown and were always interecepted. There is no such thing as an incompletion. If QBs would barely miss WRs, just behind or off there fingertips leading them too much, that would be SUPER. But you know this is gonna mean QBs are going to be 15 yards off on certain routes if they're rattled or not rated 90 overall, and we're gonna end up seeing EVEN more INTs, if that is even possible.
