I think I feel more sorry for murderers and crack addicts than I do for this demographic and I know this is where I lose you guys.brwnbear wrote:unemployed students.

You're not even close to the bottom 1%. Trust me. You have a place to live, you have a computer, and you have HBO.

When you factor in opportunity cost of college, then again no....not even close.
Way to generalize and make it an all so simple step but totally disregard the fact that I've never stated it's all of Wall Streets fault. I do however hold them responsible for the mess they created with the derivatives market, which no one has been held accountable, the financial melt down due to the housing market(even if it was homeowners that defaulted, they knew what they were doing). Dare I mention the savings and loans scandals, Enron, insider trading.brwnbear wrote:Basically, its walls streets fault because ........ well he doesnt know why, but he is sure its wall street's fault.
It really incomprehensible that people who are responsible for the well being of thousands of their workers have more say in shaping legislation than unemployed students. It should be the other way around. We should let those who have never had jobs, goals, or ambitions (but they took Econ 101) dictate how our government is run. CEOs that are responsible for guiding their companies against fierce competition world wide, should have no say, because they dont have any idea what is best for their employees. Its not like they are the brightest minds. Everyone knows that these CEOs are in their fields because the CEO Fairy blessed them at birth.

A few points. (I do better with bullet points)Shiftdnb wrote:Way to generalize and make it an all so simple step but totally disregard the fact that I've never stated it's all of Wall Streets fault. Also, from your position on running the country that I see you post here you're totally for 1% of the population running the 99%, am I correct? Is that your general assumption in stating that there is anyone that shouldn't be involved in running this country? Where you from the Soviet Union?
Problem, the 1% aren't our elected officials they are just the people that are in the pockets of our elected officials. See you've hit the nail on the head by stating this. The problem is that our elected officials aren't for the people anymore. They vote for whatever gives them the better chance at filling their campaign coffers. Why is it that when you watch news about a presidential or congress election and it's about how much money someone has instead of where they stand on an issue?brwnbear wrote: -Thats how our republic works. Well, that is our fault, really. You/we/whoever you want to choose has spent more time arguing about this shit in this thread than with the actual politicians than we have in real life. If I had that kinda slack - I can do whatever I want and, maybe occasionally, I'll get called on it by a small group of people - I'd be as corrupt as fuck.Shiftdnb wrote:Problem, the 1% aren't our elected officials they are just the people that are in the pockets of our elected officials.brwnbear wrote: -Thats how our republic works. But wait isn't that what this protest thing is all about, doing something about it, making it something that will wake up the American Idol zombies. Yeah we're on a football forum talking about it, but at least we're talking about it.trendon wrote:Well, that is our fault, really. And you can't take real action in this country like our founding fathers did because everyone is so fucking concerned with the safety of themselves, their precious little snowflakes, and feelings that the powers-that-be are corrupt because we let them prance around chanting "For your safety!" anytime there is an important ruling on anything from nuclear power plants to traffic cameras. For your safety! And, in turn, we are a nation of pussies who will willingly sacrifice our liberty for freedom (the biggest no-no possible) and we get insane laws intended to shepard us into nice little groups ... 99% sized groups, for example. If you send a letter or make a phone call, you look like a nutjob since everyone else is watching American Idol and you get nowhere. If you go "extreme" like the fucking people who made the goddamn United States, you are a terrorist and will be water-boarded. For your safety.
All our fault. Wall Street is just simultaneously smart enough and inconsiderate enough to pile on. We are not. That's why we are on a fucking NCAA forum arguing about this shit; we are too chickenshit, too much of a complacent fatcat, and/or too stupid to do anything about it.
I am not getting what this has to do with wall street? Why not complain about the role unions have in elections? They give more money and have more influence than anyone in wall street.Shiftdnb wrote:Problem, the 1% aren't our elected officials they are just the people that are in the pockets of our elected officials.
