I got the information as you so smartly put it straight from his mouth at today's press conference.

Formed the opinion that he was an idiot for defending these "good people".

I seem to fit your high standing criteria. Where did I go wrong? I didn't quote a media article. I didn't make a witty comment. I'm not liberal media.

You may disagree with me but don't sit here and act as if I continually post this stuff as I rarely if ever do but felt this was a pretty bad day for our country.

I respect you and like you as a person but quit coming off as this high and mighty ego down on a person like me that has no political agenda at all versus a bystander in this country and what I heard and saw straight from our presidents mouth.

Whether the President wants to admit it or not much of his rhetoric has made these groups more empowered and feel like he is their president. I personally do not think he is an actual racist but he is a businessman and politician and will not condemn them the way he should or the way we are used to because it is a sizable faction of his most passionate voters....

I did not say all Trump people are white supremacists before anyone starts with that but surely we can all admit that if you are a white supremacist or something close to it you are also a pretty big Trump fan

:o :o :o

I agree... with some of it.

Here's what I disagree with... I don't think he gives a shit about condemning them publicly. There's 2 reasons. #1 it's not really a sizeable faction. You can look up total numbers of the KKK or any other similar group, then compare it to the voting populace. It's incredibly small and irrelevant in total. It's also nearly completely irrelevant when it's broken down by state because the states where it's the most abundant are already going to be GOP and having this vote or not doesn't matter. #2 even he does call them out and piss them off, what are they going to do... vote for Hillary or another Dem? No chance in hell. At worst, they don't show up.

It's nothing personal, I think very highly of you and many others here as well.

But like I said to BFIVL, every time I come in here it's sensational stuff. Typically not you, but it happens a lot in here. I listened to that press conference before you posted and had already read up on a lot of this stuff. I knew exactly what he said, but I actually listened to it again to make sure I wasn't missing it.

That discussion was over to me at the point that you admitted he didn't say those words. Again, irrelevant what you believe.

Then you threw out the idea that our difference is that I believe him and you don't. Again, misrepresenting facts. What you believe is irrelevant.

So just to be clear because I'm tired... I'll give you my actual opinions and you can do with them what you want...
- The white supremacists are pieces of shit
- Anyone there protesting peacefully on either side should have gotten the hell out once they realized what was going on.
- While I don't like it or support it, they had a legal permit to be there
- Antifa is also at fault for the violence. They showed up without permits, with weapons and acted violently as well.
- I understand why Trump gets pissy with the media. I don't agree with how he handles it, but a part of me finds it refreshing that he's not afraid to stand up to them. They have been anything but fair.
- I think he doesn't lose a second of sleep over this incident.

Since I may have pissed off some republicans and some democrats tonight... let me piss off the libertarians too and give you another topic...

- I think our right to assemble and free speech needs to be evaluated. The fact that we have known hate groups, batshit crazy troll groups (hi Westboro), and other organizations that incite violence, with the ability to close down roads and interrupt the general public is a problem. I'm well versed on the significance of marching and speech. But I think we're in a different world today where the interruptions are far more excessive and there are other forms of media to get your message out.

I'm going to run and hide now. :-)

Nope! This is one of our foundations as a country. You mute hate speech but you've opened up that all speech isn't protected and where does it go from there. Not a road I want to go down.

So you think adjusting the 1st amendment because as you say we are in a different world today and things are far more excessive..... I wonder how you feel when the exact same logic applies to the 2nd amendment

Not saying to mute any form of speech. I think we need more organization and a more clear line of peaceful protest vs disruption. I won't pretend to know what that is, but we've started down a slippery slope and it will need to be addressed. Just follow the Antifa movement and their progression in violence. At the point that sticks/poles are being swung, aerosol cans are used as blow torches, people are pepper spraying each other, loaded socks, bike locks or other homemade weapons are being used... it needs to be shut down. If there's looting/vandalism... shut it down. I don't think most people would argue these points. (maybe I'm wrong) I likely go a step further than most and think it needs to be shut down at the point of verbal abuse towards other humans. It's one thing to protest for your own rights, it's another to make clear derogatory statements about other humans.

I'm totally good with reasonable gun laws. Where I might differ with others is in what I consider reasonable. You have a felony? You don't have a gun. My stance is likely somewhere in that region. Most libertarians get bent out of shape over the mere fact that any form of control leads to registration. They are terrified that registration will lead to confiscation. My opinion is that is absurd. But I understand their viewpoint and how they feel things may progress.

the only thing that has changed is we have access to information like we've never had and we see these things whenever we look on social media or TV. i don't know the actual data but i'd guess these types of civil demonstrations are at historical lows.

The ability to post whatever you feel also leads us to boosting our own ego's into thinking our opinions are right since the internet is generally a 1 way street of posting thought and that empowers people into believing much of their own bullshit. then they get faced with alternative thought and it becomes combustible because each of them have just spent 6 months hammering away at a keyboard convincing themselves that they knew what they were talking about.

people have different opinions, get over it. smile, hug someone and use your vote if you want to make change or run for an office.

Exactly, I see people always up in arms on my Facebook, which I would have deleted if I didn't have to use it for work.

I have seen 0 people on my feed actually out meeting a congressman, local government official, anything to make a change on my Facebook feed. Tons of Arm Chair politicians on the internet.
