I get it Shelton! But we will never move away from the 2 party system. The closest we have right now is Bernie and Warren as Socialists but they are under the democratic tag. Voting for anything but the two parties is a wasted vote as much as that sucks it's just a reality we live in and I don't see it changing in my lifetime

You are right because....everyone keeps voting for one of them. :)

Sure, because....well, you get it at this point I'm sure.

Anyone who votes for a democrat or a republican, when you complain about our current political climate it's just noise, it means nothing IMO. You're saying one thing but supporting the exact thing you're railing against.

It's not wasted if you don't have a majority agreement with either one. It's only wasted in the eyes of 1 of the 2 sides that feels that a no vote is a vote against their candidate.

And for one party the vote will be wasted in their eyes. It could be the right feeling it this next election and the left feel it the election after that.

The comment comes across as a politically biased statement. This has nothing to do with the right or left. Both have been able to pass a law like this before and both have never done so. The left doesn't care any more than the right when it comes to these laws. They both could care less about us, whether it is gun laws, immigration or any other law that helps the average American out.
Clinton had an assault weapons ban that Republicans let expire in 2004.

It is not biased. If you can not admit that Republicans do not want to do anything about this and care too much about the NRA rating and NRA money then you are just not paying attention at all to the party you support.

The point is, it's not a wasted vote to the person making it. It is our vote to do as we wish. By your logic, if you live in California and vote republican, you're wasting your vote. You should just show up and vote Democrat because that's who is going to win anyway.

This feels like you're saying you vote a certain way based on how others will view it, and not what you actually think is best for the country.

Right.

George's opinion is exactly why things won't ever change. And even if he votes for the guy that gets 2% of the vote, it's not wasted. If people stopped thinking like George, maybe that guy gets 7% of the vote, then maybe 13% in 2024, and so on and so forth...

I think over the next 2-3 elections we're going to see enough of a split in thinking that there could be room for a viable middle ground. The issue is funding. These guys are racking up so much money that it's tough to even get into the game.

And if you cannot admit that the Democrats only say reform and more laws while doing nothing you are oblivious to what is actually happening. The democrats could have passed a law in 2006-2008 when they controlled everything. This has nothing to do with Republicans/Democrats. They do not care about this, and their actions have shown as such over the past 2 decades. Don't let those facts blind you by party bias. Yes I know, the republicans haven't done anything. But to put this on just them is plain ignorant. Both have refused to do anything but talk and history proves this to be 100% accurate

Are you willing to live the next 20-30 years for this to take hold to get a politician you agree with into office? It's a lesser of 2 evils at this point. I have some things I am 100% against with the Republican party. Abortion being one. I am pro-life. But I am not above anyone else to say my beliefs should be pushed onto you regardless if you were raped/incest.

First of all from 2006-2008 George Bush was president so no, they did not control everything. The last Democratic president before Obama literally had an assaults weapon ban, Republicans let it expire in 2004. Obama did not have this super majority to do whatever he wanted. I am not a democrat, I love John Kasich but he is way too moderate for the current Republican Party. This next election of course I will not vote for Trump because he is morally bankrupt and an embarrassment in the international scene which I think is the presidents most important/impactful job.

It is just funny that you think the NRA gives 100% of their money to Republicans yet they equally do not want to do anything.

I don't plan on going anywhere the next 20-30 years, so why not?

But seriously, the alternative is what we have now, but only worse. Why would you NOT be willing for this change, even if it's a slow burn?

You do not need to have a super majority to pass any laws.

FWIW, I thought a super majority was having the presidency/house/senate. You explained what it was. But that doesn't mean you have to have a super majority to pass a law. It's to over-ride a veto correct? So if you have republicans in all 3 then a law should be easy to pass. Same if you have democrats in all 3. This is why I say they don't care about you and I. They (left/right) need the decisiveness it seems, otherwise we would have gotten common sense laws passed

I don't know if I have 30 years  and I don't want to live with something that I am completely against for the next 30 years.

Listening to stern this morning. Guy called in and said he broke his dick. Said it’s at a 90 degree angle at the base. Was a tough ride to work listening.
