I think you're really missing the point here. Since the NBA became a big business in the 80's how many non-large market teams have won a championship? San Antonio, Detroit, and.....? It's been LA, Boston, Chicago, and Houston, three of which are among the four largest cities in the country and the four largest TV markets. I'm not sure about Boston's population or market share but their tradition and name alone brings in a ton of viewers. And then you have the Knicks who the league is dying to make competitive again, to the point that from time to time things happen that seem pointed towards helping them, like the Patrick Ewing draft and the aforementioned playoff help. Invariably, when a small market team does make noise and threatens to possibly derail a large market team fishy things happen unless that small market team has a superstar or two who are exceedingly marketable i.e. Stockton and Malone from Utah, Shaq and Penny in Orlando, Payton and Kemp in Seattle, or Barkley when he was in Phoenix. It doesn't take a giant leap of faith to see that the NBA and it's "competitive balance" are driven by who can bring in the most money for the league. For all the talk of how the lack of a salary cap hurts baseball they're really not that far behind the NBA in regards to creating a balanced, fair league where everyone has a chance to win.

and the Celtics following is a major city in Boston, along with all of the surrounding areas in New England until you get to southern Connecticut where it splits

It's been like the last 10 years, probably half the teams.

Name a team that lacks any serious super star or at least a few star players outside that Detroit team to win it all in any sport?

lets not forget when Detroit won it LA was hobbling into the finals and it felt like Shaw wasnt even trying anymore.

New York Giants - Super Bowl...had Strahan but nobody else was really that big name, had Eli but the Super Bowl got him to star status

Do people in Cal really think thats why they lost? Im not trying to start anything, Im just interested in the perspective coming from the other end. I know here in MI, and have heard on syndicated radio, that the series is regarded as more of a five game sweep, with LA never really having a shot (which is how I feel but Im obviously biased)

i really don't get why...

Bulls/Pacers and Mavs/Blazers are playing Game 4 before Memphis/Spurs and Nuggets/Thunder even play Game 3!?!?!

SF only has the best pitcher in the major leagues, and one of the best starting rotations last year in all of baseball, and pablo sandoval.. cmonnn

I would take the 2004 Pistons team (Rasheed Wallace, Chauncey Billups, Rip Hamilton, Teyshaun Prince and Ben Wallace) and so that they are/were more recognizeable names then all but probably Tim Lincecum on the Giants at that time

really if you compare what Lincecum had done prior to the Giants winning the world series and what Ben Wallace had done it's pretty much a dead lock

Ben Wallace - 2003, 2004 All Star...won Defensive MVP in 2002, 2003...first team all defense in 2002, 2003, 2004...led the league in rebounds 2002, 2003...led leagud in blocks 2002...

Tim Lincecum - 2008, 09, 10 all star...won 2 cy-youngs in 2008, 2009...led NL in strikeouts 2008, 09, 10...led NL/AL in strikeouts 2008

i disagree...Lincecum isn't known for his batting, he's one of the best pitchers...Ben Wallace was never known for his offense, but if you'd ask someone who they'd take to be their defensive stopper for their team back in 2002-2006 Ben Wallace would have been the answer

Your forgetting Buster Posey who is one of the best young catchers in the game as well.......not to mention a fucking stud for a closer.

D'Antoni has sealed his fate with the defensive strategy (if you can call it that) the Knicks are using against Rondo and Allen. They back off Rondo so much that he has plenty of room to see players and make plays and he refuses to put Anthony Carter in to defend Allen when that is the only guy that would have a chance of staying with him.

I think Walsh may not come back next year and I think D'Antoni is done as well. This is now clearly a playoff team with the stars they have but the supporting cast and coaching staff will likely get overhauled. No idea who they'd bring in, but they'll never win with this staff.
