21 of 23 participants are on their phone. Only 2 that aren’t is the facilitator and her AA.
Tis the norm most of the time.
The number of times people are talking over each other must be ridiculous.
When I tell people I'm just calling into a meeting, I might as well be telling them "I'm going to ignore what is going on and just do my own thing at my desk".
We have some of the folks from our other building (literally right down the street) call into meetings because they don't want to make the 2 minute walk or drive.
We also have some of our QA folks call in from their desk (2nd floor) to the conference room (1st floor) because they don't feel like coming downstairs to sit in...

Oh shit. Um, yeah, "Everyone, please put your phones away for the meeting." Do people not get performance reviews and/or dinged for not doing their job?

The real issue is more likely that meeting presenter isn't doing a good job leading the meeting or the meeting just isn't necessary.
I wouldn't be too quick to blame those on the phone.

Of course one of the guys on the phone would say this
i send group texts to the under 17 basketball team and get no replies. so i told them at practice. you guys need to reply. you have one hand on your phone and the other on your dick. you need to communicate to the coaches.
some dude thru out a text to his girl, and it was on the team thread, the team replied on the second. so now i send out a group text with a hot girl first then the message.
I hated conference calls when I was deployed. I was always asked to turn off our 90kw generator because it was too loud. This coming from an office jockey who was too scared to come out to our site. Told him multiple times we would quit operations for the conference calls during the week costing the company over $2k per flight hour. Had to explain this multiple times before he "understood" how operations worked.

Or people have the "invite everyone to the meeting" mindset rather than who really needs to be there.

Sounds like someone in a director *cough*you*cough* role needs to start smacking some people around.
They aint my people!!
But yeah, it is definitely one of those shotgun meetings where 25 people are invited and 4 are the target audience. It was just pretty funny to scan the room and everyone's head is down on their phones and she is presenting this detailed data set with not one single person paying attention besides her AA.

I felt bad...kinda.
Our COO is famous for coming into a meeting. Not paying attention and typing on his laptop etc, and picking out 1 relatively unimportant detail of the meeting. At the end, he asks a question about that relatively unimportant detail, usually one that was already answered or didn't need to be asked, and then nods when he gets his answer, as if "See!? I paid attention!". Every time, like clockwork.
In medicine, we have whats called "pimping". A ritual where someone gets called out and taken though a gauntlet of scenarios and questions pertaining to the subject at hand. Keeps you on your toes lest you get embarrassed in front of everyone for not paying attention

So my new job, at a bank, in IT, our IT Security department has a router with a hidden network that we can get on and use and it is a direct link to outside with no filtering in place. Friend that works in that department told me that they do not monitor that feed. So on slower days, Plex and movie time. Just watched Justice League and now starting Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
Being new, just taking some stupid trainings and such, so I have a bunch of time, for now. It will be short lived.
Being new sucks! Been at Bobcat for almost a month now and there is so much to learn regarding what parts go with what equipment and what not. Messed up some stuff this week and they were like, "no biggie, we are all bound to mess up." So different from what I am used to.
Lol.
A girl that sits in the cube next to me, has worked there for a few years, told me she catches up on her tv shows when she has time.
As long as she gets her work done, our manager doesn't care.
Now, I have my phone sort of hidden, so you can't see it if you just walk by my cube. I don't want to give the manager a bad feeling about hiring me.
