If you open a bar you'll have to hire a staff obviously. Good luck finding "like minded" people who will be as passionate and care about it as much as you will.......sounds like a ton of work

It would be a lot of work but it's been a dream of mine since I was 20 or so. I don't want a big bar, just a neighborhood bar that specializes in wings.

i don't 'live to work' but i love what i do. i could retire tomorrow and continue to live my normal lifestyle but i have zero interest. i still work 7 days a week by my own choosing and i dont have a 'boss'. i think you're speaking from your experiences here rather than from the perspective of someone who actually loves what they do. i made a lot of money in my early 20's... spent a lot on frivolous shit like cars and clothes and partying and stuff and now i spend less than i ever did and make more than i ever did back then. not everyone is the same... i thought money was the answer when i was broke. i work to get better now. so unless i became the best at what i did, i don't see myself ever retiring. but i also play a glorified video game all day

I really enjoy some aspects of my job, and dread others. My goal as I advance through my career is to mold my daily life as close to ideal as possible. That means getting rid of the shit I dont like, doing more of the things I enjoy, and being able to do it on my terms.

Examples: Hiring a scribe to do the charting for me during the day so I dont have to fight through electronic med records all day. Dropping nights/weekends/call. Catering my schedule to be able to do more of the procedures I enjoy. Trimming patient schedule so I can work at a slower pace.

Over time I hope to be able to slowly implement all these things. Once you get rid of all the things you dont like, is there any reason to stop? I love the idea of retirement, but that said I could totally see myself cutting down to 2-3 days a week and just doing that indefinitely. As of now I do enjoy my off days more than my work days, but if youre doing it on your terms it can change that perspective.

Side note: Medicine was never a "calling" for me. I got into it because I did really well in the sciences, and wanted a stable job (I was in college when I saw friends and family lose 20+ year careers during the 08 crash). Im fortunate to enjoy it for the most part, and am in a specialty that pays well for the moment

I really enjoy my job as well. Monday - Friday job, I get to travel both within the U.S. and internationally, can take the wife with me when I'd like to, work load is on again off again so there's always down time through out the month, etc. etc. Everyone I work with in my department are from similar backgrounds so for the most part we agreee/cooperate well together. And yes, the pay is good as well.

I flat out don't have a drive. I quit the state department and working in embassies after my first assignment bc they were going to send me to Turkmenistan... which I was not about. I took an easy job in the Caribbean as a GS 12 and been coasting on that ever since. If I could do my same job on a mon-fri gig I would be in heaven. I don't have to do a lot and get to shoot the shit. Oh and work with plants from time to time which is awesome. I like regulating ivory and endangered species stuff as well. I never hate going to work unless it's on a weekend.

Thoroughly enjoy my job? Absolutely.

"Love it". Nah

But it has let me relocate to a better opportunity for the kids/family, provide more than ever for my family and our future, and lets me buy Teslas.

I cant complain too much.

Yes, I am enjoying Texas much more than Florida the last 3 years.

Better schools for the kids, lower cost of living, got some seasons which is a nice change, better opportunities, safer area.

Sure I miss the fishing and boating but can now just get it as a vacation when need be. I grew up my whole life with the ocean and beach, it honestly gets boring and enjoying the change of a different state.

The gulf is like 5 hours away right? Corpus isn't so bad. Padre Island is nice as well. I hated the humidity in San Antonio. And it was a little to busy for me.

most of the things you mention wanting to implement are really just moving you closer to not working.....right?

am i misreading this post? why would it be so hard for someone in a city to hire people to work a job? Get some college kids to bartend. problem solved.

College kids bartending, easy peasy. Nothing could possibly go wrong.

You can surf in both, catch salt water fish and it has sharks. Pretty much the same thing to me

he said "like minded" people. Most people who work in bars aren't as invested and driven as George appears to be
